On the evening of November 29, the Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue Command of Bac Lieu province said that a fishing boat while operating at sea discovered and rescued 7 sailors whose ship had sunk and was drifting in the waters of Bac Lieu.
7 sailors in distress were brought safely to Vinh Hau Border Control Station.
Specifically, at around 10:00 a.m. on November 29, Vinh Hau Border Control Station, under Cai Cung Border Post, Vinh Thinh Commune, Hoa Binh District (Bac Lieu), received a report from Mr. Tran Viet Thuong (residing in Vinh Hau Commune, Hoa Binh District), the captain of fishing boat BL-2434TS, saying that he was rescuing 7 crew members whose fishing boat had sunk and was drifting on the sea in Bac Lieu. The location of the incident was about 3 nautical miles from the estuary of Vinh Hau Commune.
The 7 crew members who were in an accident at sea included: Mr. Bui Anh Hien (40 years old, residing in Dau Lo hamlet, Nha Mat ward, Bac Lieu city, captain, owner of fishing boat BL-1619TS) and 6 crew members on this fishing boat.
Initial information, at about 3:00 a.m. the same day, fishing boat BL-1619TS left Nha Mat estuary, Bac Lieu city, heading to Soc Trang sea to fish. When the fishing boat was about 2 nautical miles out to sea, it suddenly hit an underground concrete pillar, causing the boat to break and gradually sink.
After the accident, the captain anchored the fishing boat at the sinking location, called on the crew to hold on to the trawl buoy and drifted into the waters of Bac Lieu.
When the crew members were drifting about 3 nautical miles from the estuary of Vinh Hau commune, they were discovered by Mr. Tran Viet Thuong, captain of fishing boat BL-2434TS, who rescued and brought them safely onto the ship. Afterwards, the victims were taken to Vinh Hau Border Control Station at about 1:30 p.m. the same day.
Vinh Hau Border Control Station sent medical staff to examine, give first aid, and check the health of the injured crew members. Currently, the crew members' health is stable and they were sent home to their families in the evening of the same day.
