News from Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority, at 10:00 p.m. on December 20, the Port Authority received a notice from the captain of the Hoa Lu 02 ship (nationality: Vietnam, with a total tonnage of 12,691.6 DWT), which was carrying clinker on a journey from Quang Ninh to Vung Tau to deliver goods as planned when it encountered an accident.

Accordingly, when the ship was approaching Con Trau Island (in Binh Dinh waters), it encountered an incident of water entering the cargo hold. The ship tilted about 10 degrees and was at risk of an accident. At that time, there were 12 crew members and 2 passengers on board.
Immediately after verifying the information, Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority activated the rescue information processing procedure, mobilized personnel that night to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize the rescue of the ship and crew.
It is known that the sea area where the ship crashed has strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 8-9, waves from 3m to 5m high, very dangerous for the lives of the crew on board if the ship sinks.
The Port Authority has maintained contact with the ship to grasp the ship's condition, the crew's condition, and instructed the captain to maneuver the ship toward the nearest safe and easily accessible shore, ready to abandon ship in case of danger.
After checking maritime activities in the area of the ship in distress, the Port Authority promptly contacted the ship Nhat Chau 289, which was traveling near the area of the Hoa Lu 02 ship, to coordinate and rescue the Hoa Lu 02 ship.
At 10:30 p.m., the captain of Hoa Lu 02 reported that the ship's condition was very dangerous, with water coming in quickly and a large tilt that made it impossible to save it. The ship was at risk of sinking, endangering the lives of the crew, and the captain announced that he would abandon ship.
The Nhat Chau 289 ship then approached the area where the Hoa Lu 02 crew had evacuated and carried out the rescue. By 23:04, 14 crew members of the Hoa Lu 02 ship were rescued in time and brought to Quy Nhon Port area to hand over the crew and carry out the next steps.
The crew members were in stable mental condition and normal health at the time of reception. Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority handed over 14 people on board to the Border Guard of Binh Dinh province for further handling according to regulations.
