Japanese man donates 29 kg of gold to the government

Mr. Natsuo Nakajima, 87 years old, donated 29 kg of gold bars and one kg of platinum to the Minoh city government to buy ambulances and develop tourism.

On June 20, the Minoh City Government, Osaka Prefecture, Japan held a ceremony to receive gold and platinum bars worth a total of 280 million yen (nearly two million USD) donated by Mr. Nakajima in May.

"I want to return what I have accumulated in Minoh over the past 50 years," said Mr. Nakajima, expressing his wish that the money be used by the government to buy ambulances and develop tourism.

He owns a beef restaurant in Minoh City that opened in 1960. He has now retired from running the restaurant and handed it over to his children and grandchildren. "I like the seasonal scenery around Minoh Falls and want to contribute to the local community," he said.

Mayor Ueshima expressed "sincere gratitude to Mr. Nakajima for donating his hard-earned money." The city will convert the gold and platinum into cash to supplement the budget.
