Cultural and historical tourism is the outstanding strength of Dien Bien tourism - the historical land associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory "famous in five continents, shaking the world".
Monuments such as A1 Hill, De Castries Bunker, Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument, Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, Muong Phang Campaign Command Headquarters or the Temple of Heroes and Martyrs at Dien Bien Phu Battlefield... have been invested in construction and restoration to meet the needs of sightseeing and learning about history of a large number of domestic and international tourists.
Besides its historical tourism strengths, Dien Bien is also a place with great potential for resort tourism, health care with a system of hot mineral springs, invested homestays or eco-tourism, exploring natural landscapes and experiencing the cultural identity of 19 ethnic groups.
"Star" of the Northwest region
Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, assessed Dien Bien as a "star" of the Northwest region with convenient air routes and highways that have been and are being invested in.
Currently, Dien Bien is the only province in the Northwest that has an airport connecting to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; the road traffic system connecting the provinces in the region is receiving investment and expansion...
To continue promoting the role of Dien Bien tourism in linking and creating momentum for tourism development in the Northwest region, in 2024, Dien Bien province was honored to be chosen as the host locality to organize the National Tourism Year 2024 with the theme "Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience".
During the year, there will be 169 response programs and events, including 13 national programs and events organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, departments and central agencies; Dien Bien province will organize 28 programs, events and activities; 128 response events and activities will be organized by 33 provinces and centrally-run cities.
According to Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration together with Dien Bien has planned to develop content for the entire National Tourism Year 2024, including researching and grasping tourism trends, attracting investment, and conditions to promote Dien Bien's tourism potential and advantages.
In particular, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration is actively supporting Dien Bien to promote and advertise tourism at many important domestic and international forums, events and tourism programs.
He emphasized: “The necessary conditions have been significantly improved. This is an opportunity that Dien Bien is seizing to create a breakthrough for local tourism in particular and the Northwest in general in the coming time.”
Sharing the same view, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy believes that through the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 event, the values and potentials of Dien Bien tourism in particular, the Northwest region and Vietnam tourism in general will be converged, promoted and effectively promoted, contributing to realizing the goal of making tourism a spearhead economic sector.

Dien Bien is ready
Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee Vu A Bang excitedly shared that National Tourism Year 2024 is the most important tourism event of the year.
The organization of the National Tourism Year 2024 associated with the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024) is expected to be an important boost for the socio-economic development in general and tourism in Dien Bien province in particular, creating conditions to attract resources for investment and development, building new and attractive products, contributing to creating momentum for socio-economic development of the province in 2024 and the following years.
Mr. Vu A Bang said: “We hope that hosting the National Tourism Year 2024 will contribute to the transformation and breakthrough in the economic and social development of Dien Bien. In particular, gradually bringing tourism to play an important role in hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and improving the material life of the people of Dien Bien province.”
With a series of 169 events throughout the National Tourism Year, according to the Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, these will be key activities to promote the image and people of Dien Bien. Thereby, gradually realizing the desire to turn the province into an attractive destination for tourists, not just a stopover in the Northwest.

To organize the National Tourism Year 2024, Dien Bien has prepared for important activities such as the opening ceremony; built specific and detailed plans for each activity content by month, by quarter, continuously from January to December associated with activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
At the same time, Dien Bien focuses on building a variety of tourism products, typically products associated with history such as exploring the special National Historical Site of Dien Bien Phu Battlefield.
This year, Dien Bien is expected to attract about 1.3 million visitors to visit and explore.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Chuyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, said that in the first months of the year, the province has organized many typical activities and events such as: Northwest Culture - Tourism Week in Thanh Hoa, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; 9th Swallow-tail Boat Racing Festival; 4th National Paragliding Club Championship, 2024; Conference on promoting and advertising tourism in Dien Bien province in Muong Lay town and Cherry Blossom Festival - Dien Bien Phu in 2024...
The organization of these activities has contributed to bringing the number of tourists to Dien Bien in the first two months of the year to 400,000, with revenue reaching over 400 billion VND. These are positive signals, helping Dien Bien to complete the goal of welcoming and serving over 1.3 million tourists this year.
