Speaking at the opening of the Media Conference with the theme "Hanoi City Police join hands to protect the environment for a green - clean - beautiful capital", Colonel Pham Thanh Hung - Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police affirmed that the environment plays a very important role in the economic and social development and political stability of the country. However, the environment is also a top concern in the face of challenges from development, urbanization, climate change and pollution... According to statistics from international environmental organizations, Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest amount of plastic waste in the world. In Vietnam, each year about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are discharged into the environment, only about 27% of which is recycled and reused by facilities and businesses.
Discussing President Ho Chi Minh’s example in environmental protection, Colonel Pham Thanh Hung shared: During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always lived in harmony with nature. In his thoughts, elements of the natural environment play a particularly important role in the development of society and people.
President Ho Chi Minh considered nature as a close friend of human beings, familiar, simple, close; especially, nature is a part of the resources of the Fatherland. He once affirmed: "Vietnam has two words Fatherland, we also call the Fatherland the country, having land and water is the Fatherland". And he also initiated the "Patriotic Hygiene" movement, which was enthusiastically responded by the people, creating a vibrant and widespread emulation movement.
Throughout his revolutionary life, he was attached to nature. He absorbed the cultural values and traditions of the nation, the quintessence of world culture, and pioneered the trend of living in harmony and friendliness with nature and the environment. He laid the foundation for Vietnamese culture and environmental ethics.
Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle and implementing his advice, in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, especially in recent years - when climate change and environmental pollution are increasingly challenging the world, including Vietnam, our Party and State always pay attention to harmonizing economic and social development and environmental protection in the goal of sustainable development. The 13th National Party Congress has placed the element of "environmental protection" in a close relationship with economic growth and cultural development, implementing progress and social justice. In fact, Vietnam has been implementing many strategies and programs to protect the environment, focusing on controlling environmental pollution, exploiting and using natural resources economically, reasonably and effectively, and protecting the ecological environment.
According to Colonel Pham Thanh Hung, implementing the Party's Resolution, the Resolution of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security, the Party Committee of the Hanoi City Police on environmental protection and the increasingly high requirements from practice in environmental protection, over the past years, the Hanoi City Police have committed to and promoted the implementation of activities "Say no to disposable plastic products" throughout the City Police. Up to now, in all units and most officers and soldiers have been aware of limiting the use of plastic bags, prioritizing the use of environmentally friendly products.
Responding to the Month of Action for the Environment and World Environment Day 2023, with the coordination and support of Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Co., Ltd. (Urenco), the two units organized a Media Conference on Environmental Protection and a series of response activities. The event aims to promote the important role of the environment for people and social life; spread beautiful values, typical examples of environmental protection; deploy specific environmental protection activities to combine theory and practice to improve the effectiveness of propaganda, thereby encouraging environmental protection behavior of cadres, soldiers, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the two units through practical actions.

In addition to the meaningful contents of the Media Conference, the Program organized a series of events: Inauguration of an organic waste treatment machine at the City Police's kitchen; organizing and awarding prizes for the contest "Searching for waste recycling initiatives"; "Exchanging scrap for gifts"; implementing the project "Women of the Capital Police join hands to protect the environment, for a green, clean, beautiful Capital"...
As the unit coordinating the organization of the Program, and also the unit owning the organic waste treatment machine product, at the ribbon-cutting event, Deputy General Director of Urenco Company - Mr. Nguyen Van Duc said that in the agency's development strategy, Urenco is aiming to change the way of operating in a modern direction, shifting from labor with bulky tools to more streamlined tools, shifting from simple waste collection and treatment to treatment with advanced technology, shifting from waste treatment to waste management. Urenco's donation of organic waste treatment machines to the City Police's kitchen is one of the moves to realize the Company's development strategy, considering these as starting points to lay the foundation for widespread and simultaneous product application in the future.
With the sense of responsibility and experience in organizing events of the officers and women of the two units, the activities of organizing and awarding prizes for the contest "Searching for waste recycling initiatives"; organizing Game shows; "Exchanging scrap for gifts"... brought a vibrant and colorful atmosphere to the Program. If the contest "Searching for waste recycling initiatives" is an opportunity for female police officers to assert themselves in the field of recycling and reuse, the Game show attracts everyone with the innocence and cuteness of the children (children of officers and employees of the two units) and the intelligent and charming guidance of Vuong Thuy Linh (officer in charge of communications work of Urenco). If "Exchanging scrap for gifts" proves the correctness of the statement "Garbage is a resource", in this program, participants not only receive valuable gifts from exchanging scrap but also understand the concepts of garbage classification, how many types of garbage will be divided into, the meaning, purpose, value of contribution to society through garbage classification, the path of recycled garbage, some useful products recycled from garbage...
The program received the participation of nearly 500 officers, women's union members of the City Police and officers, employees and workers of Urenco Company. Spreading in the contest is to arouse the sense of responsibility of each person towards the environment in the fight against waste and plastic waste. The knowledge that each person gains through specific activities in the Program will equip them with skills to deal with waste.
Speaking about the significance and success of the Program, Major General Ngo Hoai Thu - Head of the Women's Committee of the Public Security Department affirmed: "By organizing the program, Hanoi Police has contributed to spreading the meaning of World Environment Day, thereby calling for joint action to push back plastic waste. Act now for our lives is the message we want to send to all officers and soldiers of Hanoi Police in general and members of the Hanoi Police Women's Association in particular on this meaningful event".
At the end of the "Search for waste recycling initiatives" contest, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the Traffic Police Department; the second prize to the Staff Department and the Economic Security Department. The units: the Professional Records Department, the Mobile Police Regiment and the Department of Building Mass Movements to Protect National Security won the third prize overall.
