Continue to preserve and foster Vietnam relations

On February 21, in Ho Chi Minh City, a high-level meeting between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) took place, co-chaired by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and President of the CPP, President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen.

This is an important event to further strengthen the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between the two Parties, two States and people of Vietnam and Cambodia in the new situation.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam and CPP President Hun Sen informed each other about the situation of each Party and each country; discussed the world and regional situations and some issues of mutual concern; assessed the results of cooperation between the two sides in the past time and agreed on cooperation directions in the coming time.

General Secretary To Lam and CPP President Hun Sen congratulated the important and comprehensive achievements that the Cambodian and Vietnamese people have made in national construction and development. The two leaders expressed their joy and high appreciation for the increasingly deep and extensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples in all fields, contributing significantly to socio-economic development and enhancing the position and prestige of each country in the region and the world.

CPP President Hun Sen expressed his delight at Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic development; highly appreciated the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary To Lam, for drastically implementing the work of streamlining the apparatus at all levels; considering this a good lesson for Cambodia to study. He highly appreciated the good development of relations between the two countries in recent times in all fields, and emphasized the need to propagate to the younger generations of the two countries the historical value of the relations between the two countries, the tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two Parties, the two countries and the people of Vietnam and Cambodia.

General Secretary To Lam and CPP President Hun Sen both emphasized that solidarity and mutual assistance between the two Parties and two countries is an objective necessity, a historical law, one of the greatest sources of strength, of vital significance to the revolutionary cause, national construction and protection of the two Parties and two countries, and a valuable asset of the two peoples that needs to be continued to be preserved, cultivated and passed on to future generations. General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach special importance to and give high priority to consolidating and developing the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability with the Cambodian People's Party, State and people of Cambodia.

The two leaders agreed to continue to further consolidate political relations to guide the overall relations between the two Parties and two countries, develop good relations between the leaders of the two sides, effectively implement high-level agreements between the two Parties and two countries, strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense and security, promote economic, trade, cultural, educational and tourism cooperation commensurate with the potential and strengths of each country and the relations between the two Parties and two countries, and at the same time strengthen effective and substantive cooperation between agencies of the Party, the National Assembly, ministries and branches of the Government, the Fatherland Front, people's organizations and localities of the two countries, creating a strong mark in the relations between the two countries in the new development stage, serving the practical interests of the people of the two countries.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed with the assessments and major orientations of General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman Hun Sen on the comprehensive and profound relationship between the two Parties and the two countries and further clarified the results achieved in implementing the Conclusion of the 2023 High-level Meeting between the two Parties in the fields of cooperation in politics-foreign affairs, defense-security, economy, education, legal framework, culture-tourism; frankly pointed out the limitations that need to be overcome and agreed on a number of key contents that need to be implemented soon in the coming time, especially implementing initiatives on connecting the two economies of Vietnam - Cambodia as well as the three economies of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
