The workshop was attended by 40 senior leaders of the Ministry of Public Security to enhance understanding and discuss three key contents: gender equality in the security field, international cooperation in peacekeeping operations and building a gender-sensitive police force.
Viet Nam adopted the National Action Programme on Women, Peace and Security (NAP WPS) on 21 January 2024, marking an important milestone in its commitment to promoting women’s leadership and participation in peace and security.
After the program was approved, the Ministry of Public Security has proactively carried out assigned tasks, including strengthening gender equality policies in the security sector, promoting women's leadership and participation in security work, domestic and international law enforcement, as well as in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
As the key agency of the Government in ensuring security and order, the Ministry of Public Security has an important task in integrating women, peace and security (WPS) issues into the national security framework. The workshop identified specific actions, policies and strategic objectives to develop a draft action plan of the Ministry of Public Security, which will serve as a support for the "Implementation Plan" of the National Action Program on Women, Peace and Security issued by the Government.
As Viet Nam continues to advance its PNHB&AN agenda, this initiative reaffirms the country’s commitment to inclusive security policies and women’s empowerment for sustainable peace.
As a key partner in advancing the peace and security agenda, UN Women Viet Nam continues to support capacity building, policy development and international cooperation. By promoting gender-sensitive security policies and strengthening women’s leadership in peace and security, these joint efforts will contribute to building a more inclusive, resilient and secure future for women and girls in Viet Nam and globally.
The workshop received financial support from the UK Government and the Canadian Government through UN Women.
