Witnessing many historical changes of the land and holding the position of village elder for more than 20 years, the prestigious person of the village, old man Y No Bdap (born in 1949) said: Jun village was formed hundreds of years ago by 4 clans of Mnong people in Dak Nong province and Dak Phoi commune who came here to establish the village, live and named it Jun village. Over time, generations of Mnong people here still preserve and cherish the cultural identities of the ethnic group from long house architecture, gongs, wine brewing, brocade weaving, rituals, festivals...

"In the past, Jun village had many elephants. Elephants helped villagers transport agricultural products. Later, elephants also participated in transporting tourists. At that time, my family also bought 4 elephants from Ban Don to raise to transport agricultural products. The Mnong people considered elephants as humans. Elephants were named and prayed for their health. Over the years, the elephants grew old and gradually died. Currently, the whole village has more than a dozen elephants left."

Currently, Jun village still preserves more than 60 stilt houses, 70 sets of gongs, nearly 20 dugout canoes, 13 domesticated elephants and important rituals such as: life cycle festival, boat launching ceremony, new rice worship ceremony, praying for elephants' health... In addition, people also preserve traditional crafts such as brewing rice wine, weaving brocade, weaving and culinary culture. All of these cultural values ​​are utilized by people to do tourism and develop the local socio-economy.

Secretary of Jun Y Ron Village Party Cell, Buon Krong shared: Like the Mnong community in Lak district, the people of Jun village live mainly on agriculture. The water source of Lak Lake irrigates the rice fields and industrial crops of the people. In the past, the average income of the people was less than 10 million VND/year. Now the Mnong people of Jun village know how to apply science and technology to production, 3 rice crops per year, they also grow coffee, the people's lives are getting better and better. From the village with more than 90% poor households, now there are only 37 households, many makeshift houses have been replaced by solid traditional houses. The average income of the people has increased to 45 million VND/person/year.

Jun village currently has 117 households, 450 people, with more than 90% of the Mnong ethnic group living there. Possessing beautiful scenery and converging all the cultural characteristics of the Mnong people, Jun village has the advantage of building unique and attractive community tourism products. Every year, Jun village still welcomes thousands of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience.

In order to help Jun village people develop community tourism, on November 16, 2023, Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee approved the Project to support investment in building a typical tourist destination in Jun village. Resources for implementing the Project come from Project 6 "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development with ethnic minorities and mountainous areas.

By early December 2024, Jun village was announced by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province as a community tourism destination. This is an important milestone, marking a turning point in the tourism development journey of Jun village, contributing to the preservation of traditional cultural values, and increasing income for people in the village.

Having worked in community tourism for many years, Ms. H'Wai Bdap (born in 1962), in Jun village, shared: Working in community tourism, my family and some households in the village participated in training courses on business, exploiting community tourism services from gong culture, traditional crafts, cuisine, etc. My family opened a service of accommodation - cuisine - gong performance in a traditional stilt house. I also maintain the traditional craft of brewing rice wine to serve tourists and local people. We are very happy that the village has recently been recognized as a community tourism destination. This is an opportunity for the Mnong ethnic group to continue to promote their strengths in tourism, increase income, and improve the quality of life.

In recent times, Jun village has received attention and investment in a spacious infrastructure system, especially the road along Lak Lake, which has created a beautiful landscape and promoted tourism development. Currently, Jun village has 21 households participating in community tourism, of which 6 houses are supported with infrastructure to serve tourism.

Vice Chairman of Lak District People's Committee - Nguyen Anh Tu said: Jun village is surrounded by Lak lake - the second largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam and a scenic relic recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national historical and cultural relic in 1993. This is the village with the longest history of tourism development in the district and plays an important role in tourism activities of Lak district. Most people have an understanding of tourism activities and have participated in tourism business activities. Being recognized as a typical community tourism destination further motivates Jun village to develop tourism more strongly.
