Netflix Advertises Online Video Games Without Permission

On April 10, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information issued a document requesting Netflix to stop advertising and releasing unlicensed video games. If it fails to do so, it will be handled according to Vietnamese law.

Through reviewing and checking online services, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications) discovered that Netflix Company was advertising unlicensed video games on the Netflix application provided to Vietnamese users and providing many video games on the Appstore Vietnam and Google Play Store Vietnam without being licensed to operate in Vietnam.

The above activities violate the provisions of Article 31 of Decree 72/2013/ND-CP dated July 15, 2013 of the Government regulating the management, provision and use of internet services and information on the network.

Therefore, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information requires Netflix to stop advertising and releasing its video games on the Netflix application and on the Appstore Vietnam and Google Play store Vietnam before April 25, 2024; strictly comply with the provisions of law when providing services in Vietnam.

The Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information said that in case Netflix does not comply with the above requirements, the Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with relevant state management agencies to handle the matter in accordance with Vietnamese law.
