VHO - On December 21, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city held a ceremony to announce the completion of the project "Preserving, restoring, renovating and promoting the value of Hai Van Quan relic" after 3 years of implementation.
The project started construction at the end of 2021, with a total cost of more than 42 billion VND, from the budget contributions of Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city (each locality contributes 50%).
In this restoration, the project focuses on comprehensive restoration of architectural works, aiming to recreate the beauty and historical value of the relic. Such as renovating Hai Van Quan gate and Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan gate; restoring and replacing the stone-paved gate floor, mortar system, brick walls; restoring the railing system and roof decoration; wooden door system...
At the same time, restore the Nguyen Dynasty wall system with mountain stones according to archaeological traces and reinforce the entire wall base system. In the southern wall system, restore the cannon eye, wall covering, cannon emplacements, observation towers, wall ears and ladders to the gates...
Located at an altitude of over 490m on the Hai Van mountain range, Hai Van Quan is an impressive military citadel architecture, considered one of the most majestic passes in Vietnam. In 2017, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranked Hai Van Quan as a National Historical and Architectural Relic.
The location of the relic is about 90km north of Hue city center and about 28km south of Da Nang city center. Hai Van Quan has many cultural and historical values and is a famous scenic spot, making an important contribution to the tourism development of the two localities in particular and the Central region in general.
The authorities of the two localities of Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang have had a "historic handshake" to jointly build a dossier to rank the relic as well as implement a project to preserve and restore the Hai Van Quan relic.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, the preservation and promotion of historical, cultural and natural values associated with the Hai Van Quan national relic is an important task contributing to the socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city.
This project is also an important foundation for both localities to continue to coordinate in preserving, exploiting and promoting the value of relics in the future. This is also considered a typical "model" in cooperation in preserving and restoring heritage.
The project implementation was basically completed by the end of July and the Hai Van Quan relic site was also opened to visitors for free from August 1, 2024, before the two local authorities decided on a suitable exploitation and management plan.
Statistics from the Hue Monuments Conservation Center show that from August 2024 to present, more than 133,500 visitors have visited Hai Van Quan relic.
In addition, recently, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has also implemented technology application activities, piloting a check-in platform for tourists at Hai Van Quan relic site.
As planned, the two localities will take turns managing and exploiting, promoting the value of Hai Van Quan relic over a period of time. At the same time, it is also proposed to charge an entrance fee of about 50,000 VND - 70,000 VND/person when this relic is officially exploited.
