From August 19 to 26, the VTV International Women's Volleyball Tournament will be held in Lao Cai province after three years of postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this tournament, for the first time, Vietnam will have two women's teams 1 and 2 participating to compete with the Australian team, the Mongolian team and the teams of the clubs: Choco Mucho (Philippines), Kansai University (Japan), Suwon (Korea).
Following the round-robin format, this is an opportunity for Vietnamese women's volleyball to compete with strong opponents in the region, thereby helping our players play more cohesively, develop technical and tactical skills, and is also an opportunity for young athletes to learn and accumulate more experience to quickly mature.
In recent times, Vietnamese women's volleyball has always attracted special attention from the audience. At the 2023 Southeast Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (SEA V.League) which just ended on August 6 in Vinh Phuc, the Vietnamese women's team won 3-1 against the Philippines and Indonesia teams amid the enthusiastic cheers of thousands of Vietnamese fans.
The fact that the Vietnamese women's team lost the first leg of the final to Thailand with a score of 1-3 once again showed that the biggest weakness of the Vietnamese women's team is their ability to attack. In the final, there were times when the Vietnamese women's players attacked with five or six smashes, but could not overcome the Thai block.
According to experts, participating in a series of recent international tournaments such as SEA Games 32, AVC Challenge Cup 2023, FIVB Challenge Cup 2023, SEA V.League 2023 round, has helped the players improve a lot in terms of expertise, but there is also a situation of physical overload. Therefore, in the second leg of SEA V.League 2023 taking place in Chiangmai (Thailand) from August 11 to 13, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will be led by new head coach Nguyen Trong Linh with a new squad of players: Le Thanh Thuy, Dinh Thi Thuy, Pham Thi Hien, Pham Thi Nguyet Anh, Vo Thi Kim Thoa, Vi Thi Yen Nhi, Doan Thi Xuan, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Nguyen Ly Thuy Vi, Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Ly Thi Luyen, Le Thi Thanh Lien, Nguyen Thi Ninh Anh, Hoang Thi Thao. After the 2023 SEA V.League, the Vietnamese players will return to participate in the VTV International Women's Volleyball Tournament, followed by the 2023 Asian Championship and the 2022 ASIAD.
In preparation for the VTV 2023 Women's Volleyball Tournament, Lao Cai province, the host, has renovated and repaired the multi-purpose stadium with many upgraded items such as the roof, restrooms, changing rooms, function rooms, installed tables and chairs, equipment for the press conference room, reception room, and paved the surrounding court area with asphalt.
All power, water, and high-speed wired internet connections have been installed to ensure training, competition, and operations of functional departments. The leaders of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee have directed departments and branches in the province to make every effort to complete assigned tasks and successfully organize the tournament.
Accordingly, the Department of Culture and Sports of Lao Cai province proactively coordinated closely with VTV to organize reception activities and arrange accommodation for guests and athletes.
Meanwhile, the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Tourism also coordinated with VTV to create promotional clips and introduce tourism in the province to be broadcast on mass media and hotel lobbies where guests and athletes eat and stay. The provincial police also trained the forces on duty to ensure absolute safety in the movement, meals and rest of athletes and guests.
The provincial Department of Health has carefully prepared the best health care services for athletes and spectators, while the electricity sector has a backup plan to provide safe electricity throughout the tournament.
