The journey to the aviation industry of young girl Thai Hai Tran originated from a dream and persistent determination.

Passion for aviation is not just a dream but has become a calling.

Having just completed her Bachelor of Aviation majoring in piloting at RMIT University in Australia, Tran’s ambition to become a commercial pilot is ready to take to the skies. The young woman is eager to bring her skills and enthusiasm back to serve her homeland.

The love of travel and discovery was kindled in Tran from an early age, but it was only when she had the opportunity to meet a female pilot that her love for aviation turned from a dream into a career calling that the young girl was determined to pursue.

“When I was young, I always loved to travel,” the girl from Can Tho shared. “My heart was always filled with joy when discovering new horizons.”

“Inspired by a Vietnamese female pilot, I realized that my passion for aviation is not just a dream but a calling. I want to be a part of a world where the sky is not the limit but the starting point.”

During her studies in Australia, Tran discovered that being a pilot requires not only skills but also a deep respect for the ecosystem that makes aviation possible.

“While the thrill of flying through the skies was certainly exhilarating, my journey was informed by the rich network of industry knowledge I acquired, including an understanding of air traffic management and aviation safety investigations,” Tran explains. “This comprehensive understanding deepened my respect for the industry, teaching me that aviation is a mutually supportive ecosystem where safety is paramount.”

The young woman's university experience was marked by a supportive community that helped Tran overcome challenges both in her personal life and in her studies.

“Joining student clubs and organizations enriched my college experience,” Tran shares, “I made lasting friendships and cherished memories that I will carry with me forever. These connections not only made my college years more enjoyable, but also gave me a sense of belonging, a part of a community that I will always cherish.”

Facing the challenges

Despite her passion, Tran faced many challenges, especially in the early stages of training. Learning to navigate a new environment was difficult, especially in unpredictable weather conditions. But with the dedicated guidance of her instructors, Tran overcame them.

“The initial stages of the training program were extremely challenging – everything was new and my every step was thrown into the wind by unpredictable weather. But I was fortunate to have senior instructors who believed in me,” Tran recalls.

“The unwavering support, encouragement and invaluable advice on both practical and theoretical flying helped me through the toughest times, teaching me about perseverance and determination,” she confided.

After the graduation ceremony in mid-December 2024, Tran will return to Vietnam to study some other specialized courses such as: JetFam, ATPL Frozen and MCC, preparing for important rating and training tests to be able to officially work as a commercial pilot. Tran will also spend time completing her Bachelor of Business Administration at the National Economics University and plans to continue studying for a Master of Aviation with a major in Flight Safety in the near future.

Tran shared that she was very happy to be preparing to return to Vietnam and ready to board commercial flights as a pilot.

To students who have or are about to pursue their own educational journey, Tran has a few words of advice: “Dreams are often beautiful but require a lot of effort to become reality. Embrace every challenge, pursue it persistently and let your passion guide you.”

“The thought of flying and exploring the world fills my heart with joy. I am excited for this amazing journey, where each flight will give me the opportunity to experience a new culture, meet new people and grasp the endless possibilities that lie ahead,” she shared.

With her wings ready, Tran is ready to fly high into the sky, bringing her passion and dedication back to the community that inspired her.
