That was the opinion of Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Van Hoan, at the press conference on the 4th Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2023 (HEF 2023) taking place today, September 7, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
This year's forum has the theme "Green Growth - The Journey towards Net Zero Emissions".
When referring to the story of green growth, Mr. Vo Van Hoan said that the world is changing rapidly but our actions are very slow and still confused. Sometimes, we are stingy with the money we spend today to be able to benefit from green growth in the future.
“Consumers do not want to buy goods with higher prices, businesses do not want to increase product prices, the State does not want to inject more money because it is too costly. If this continues, we cannot achieve the Net Zero target by 2050,” Mr. Hoan said.
Meanwhile, new foreign investors coming to Ho Chi Minh City often ask whether the city has renewable energy. Does the city allow them to use renewable energy so they can offset the emissions from manufacturing their products?
For businesses that have invested in Ho Chi Minh City and now want to expand, they also ask similar questions, but the city shakes its head because Ho Chi Minh City has nothing. Businesses cannot expand their factories because the products produced do not have enough green elements and cannot be sold in developed countries.
Therefore, Mr. Hoan emphasized, there needs to be a strong campaign with specific actions to create change. Here, the message of HEF 2023 needs to be clearly expressed as “Green growth and our actions”.
The Vice Chairman of the City believes that awareness is necessary but action is important. It is impossible for the State to do something while businesses do not, or for the State to call on businesses to do something while the State does not. All sectors, levels, businesses, and people must participate together to achieve green growth.
Prime Minister will attend Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2023
HEF 2023 is an annual international event hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, aiming to receive contributions from speakers and domestic and international experts on the city's socio-economic development in general and the city's key projects, goals and programs in particular. This year, the event takes place from September 13-17.
According to the organizers, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and deliver a speech at the forum. In addition, HEF 2023 will be attended by the Head of the Central Economic Commission, the Minister of Planning and Investment, the Minister of Finance, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
In addition, there are 18 delegations of ministries, branches, and international localities; 8 financial institutions and international organizations; 65 domestic and international experts in the field of green economy, circular economy, towards green and sustainable growth of the world.
