On the afternoon of January 4, at the Presidential Palace, Politburo member, President Vo Van Thuong, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, chaired the fourth meeting of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.
Attending the regular meeting were Politburo members: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh - Vice Chairman of the Council; National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue - Member of the Council; Minister of Public Security, General To Lam - Member of the Council; Minister of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang - Member of the Council; Party Central Committee member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son - Member of the Council; and members of the Council's support agencies.
At the meeting, the Council discussed and commented on the results achieved in various fields, especially defense, security, and foreign affairs in recent times; analyzed and assessed the world and regional situation and its impacts and influences on Vietnam; and proposed program content and tasks for 2024.
Regarding the content of the Council's meetings in 2024, the Council agreed to discuss and give opinions on important, strategic issues related to national defense, security, and foreign affairs, on that basis, to advise and contribute ideas to the Politburo, the National Assembly, and the Government.
On behalf of the Council, President Vo Van Thuong commended the military, police and diplomatic forces for their important and comprehensive achievements in carrying out political tasks in recent times.
In the context of the world situation forecast to continue to develop in a complicated and unpredictable manner, the President requested that in the coming time, relevant forces and agencies continue to promote the achieved results, thoroughly grasp, closely follow and effectively implement the policies, guidelines and decisions of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, the Government as well as the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on national defense, security and foreign affairs, focusing on implementing the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee, Session XIII, on the Strategy for National Defense in the new situation, meeting the requirements of firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, ensuring national security, maintaining social order and safety, and promoting comprehensive and extensive international integration.
The President emphasized that in the coming time, we will continue to closely monitor, proactively grasp, research, analyze, evaluate, and closely forecast the world, regional, and domestic situation, especially emerging issues of strategic nature affecting Vietnam's defense and security, in order to promptly advise the Party and State on policies and measures to handle them, and not be passive or surprised in any situation; focus on protecting the Party's ideological foundation, fighting against hostile forces; continue to promote the tradition and strength of great national unity in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
