Malaysian government donates $50,000 to help with Typhoon Yagi recovery

On the morning of November 7, in Hanoi, Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, received 50,000 USD from the Malaysian Government to support people in the northern provinces to overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi).

At the reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome of President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien.

Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai expressed his deep sympathy to the victims of the storm No. 3; at the same time, he emphasized the quick and timely response of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front in overcoming the consequences of the storm and flood.

"In his recent speech at the ASEAN Summit in Laos, the Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his wish that Malaysia would like to contribute a little bit to help the victims affected by Storm No. 3. And that is why today we came and presented this donation to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee," Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai shared.

On behalf of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Chairman Do Van Chien expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to the Government and people of Malaysia and Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai for their concern and support for the Vietnamese people affected by storm No. 3.

Chairman Do Van Chien said that Vietnam and Malaysia have a good cooperative relationship, recently the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Malaysia diplomatic relations (1973 - 2023). The two sides are actively promoting economic, cultural and trade activities towards the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam - Malaysia Strategic Partnership in 2025.

According to Chairman Do Van Chien, storm No. 3 made landfall in Vietnam with strong intensity, causing serious impacts on people and property in 26 northern provinces and cities, destroying tens of thousands of houses, and causing great damage to trees, crops, and people's crops. The Party, State, Government, armed forces, community, and society have made every effort from the beginning to proactively prevent, combat, and avoid the storm as well as overcome the consequences caused by the storm. Up to now, people's lives have basically stabilized, and the Party and State are continuing, together with socialized resources, to focus on rebuilding production and ensuring people's lives.

Emphasizing the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in connecting hearts and sharing with people facing difficulties due to natural disasters and epidemics, Chairman Do Van Chien said that, responding to the call of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, up to now, the amount of money transferred by agencies, organizations and individuals at home and abroad to the account of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee has reached over 2,100 billion VND and has been promptly allocated in 2 phases to support people in investing in production, food reserves and house reconstruction.

"Today, Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai, on behalf of the Government and people of Malaysia, presented this valuable source of funding to support and help the Vietnamese people overcome difficulties. This demonstrates the deep affection and strong relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia," Chairman Do Van Chien emphasized.

Chairman Do Van Chien pledged that the Central Relief Mobilization Committee (Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front) will use this funding source for the right purpose, effectively, ensuring publicity, transparency and subject to supervision by organizations and individuals in society.

Through the Ambassador, on behalf of the beneficiaries of the donation, Chairman Do Van Chien expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to the Government and people of Malaysia; at the same time, he believed that the strategic cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia and the friendship between the people of the two countries will be increasingly strong, develop and achieve better results.

On this occasion, Chairman Do Van Chien sent his best wishes to Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai for good health, happiness and successful completion of assigned tasks.
