On the afternoon of November 14, in Hanoi, Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, received a donation of 50,000 USD from the Turkish Agency for Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) to support people in 26 northern provinces and cities to overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.
Presenting the donation to the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, Turkish Ambassador to Vietnam Korhan Kemik expressed his honor to return to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee for the second time to present the donation to support people in the provinces to overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi).
Emphasizing that the relationship between the two countries is developing positively, Mr. Korhan Kemik said that the depth of the friendship between the two countries was strongly demonstrated when in February 2023, for the first time, Vietnam sent two rescue teams to support Turkey after the earthquake disaster. The Turkish people will never forget this noble gesture of solidarity. These noble gestures will forever be an unforgettable mark for the Turkish Government and people.
“It can be seen that, in times of hardship and adversity, the spirit of sharing and solidarity between the people of the two countries is always strongly promoted. This is once again demonstrated by the fact that immediately after receiving news of Typhoon Yagi, the Turkish Government mobilized private enterprises and domestic organizations to join hands to support the families of the victims affected by Typhoon Yagi,” said Mr. Korhan Kemik.
According to Mr. Korhan Kemik, previously, the Turkish Red Crescent Society stood side by side with Vietnam after Typhoon Yagi through financial support and today the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) continues to join hands to support the amount of money to support people in flooded areas with Vietnam. Along with financial support, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) implements projects in affected areas and Turkish enterprises join hands to contribute additional support such as ICTAS Company, which is currently having a large project at Long Thanh Airport - Ho Chi Minh City, has also provided financial support or Hayat Kimya Vietnam Ltd, currently operating in Vietnam, has provided material support to localities affected by the storm.
Mr. Korhan Kemik hopes that through the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, this amount of money will be allocated to help people overcome difficulties; at the same time, he believes that the good and sustainable relationship between Vietnam and Türkiye will be maintained and developed in the future.
On behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, Chairman Do Van Chien expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to the Government and people of Türkiye, especially the Agency for Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) for providing support to the Vietnamese people affected by storm No. 3.
Emphasizing that storm No. 3 has caused heavy losses in human lives and property to people in the northern provinces, Chairman Do Van Chien said that the Party, State, Government and people of Vietnam have made efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Up to this point, the lives of people in the flood-hit provinces have basically stabilized. With its role and mission, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has received over VND 2,200 billion. Along with the support resources, the Government of Vietnam will continue to launch a support package of up to hundreds of thousands of billions of VND with the desire to promptly rebuild people's lives.
Expressing his emotion when the Turkish Government and people made noble gestures right after the storm passed to support the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties, Chairman Do Van Chien pledged that the Central Relief Mobilization Committee (Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front) will use this fund for the right purpose, effectively, ensuring publicity, transparency and subject to the supervision of organizations and individuals in society.
"With this amount of money, we expect to build Great Solidarity houses for 15-20 households, thus reducing the difficulties of hundreds of Vietnamese people," Chairman Do Van Chien emphasized, adding that with the help of international friends and the solidarity and unity of the Vietnamese people, life is reviving in many places. Nu village - which suffered heavy damage from storm No. 3 - is also gradually reviving, the first houses have been built and completed for the people.
Chairman Do Van Chien shared that through the hardship, we have come to realize that disasters have no borders or countries, and that helping and sharing also has no borders or countries. Everyone joins hands to support people to overcome difficulties and rebuild their lives soon. The clearest evidence is that for the first time, Vietnam sent police and military forces to participate in earthquake relief in Türkiye in 2023.
"The Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to the relationship between the two countries and wish to promote this bilateral relationship even better in the coming time. On this occasion, I hope the Turkish Government will continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese people living and working in Türkiye," President Do Van Chien emphasized.
