"Atlantis Pottery and Painting" is a special exhibition of three authors: excellent teacher - painter Le Dan, former vice principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, painters Tran Chi Ly and Vo Van Viet.
The exhibition introduces 106 Atlantic and Pandora ceramic works along with 40 oil and acrylic paintings, on display until March 15 at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts (97A Pho Duc Chinh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
The Strange Encounter of Three Kindred Souls
The opening ceremony attracted a large audience, colleagues and generations of students. All three are former students and teachers from the art school and still maintain a burning passion for creativity to this day.
Although they have been long-time colleagues, more than a year ago, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the art school, the three met each other as a strange fate.
The harmony in love of art, the enthusiasm for ideas and the desire to constantly create new things have closely connected the three.
Each person is of different ages, has their own family, place and job, but has chosen to work together to create for the past year at the Vuon Art studio in Trang Bang, Tay Ninh.

The result of that devoted companionship is hundreds of ceramic and painting works displayed at the exhibition, demonstrating the talent, determination and persistent, abundant working capacity of the three artists.
Not to mention the process of making Atlantis and Pandora pottery requires very strict and elaborate techniques.
In addition to the beauty of the creative idea, this ceramic glaze line requires strict adherence to the process, especially the technique of two manual firings with firewood at high temperatures of about 1,000 degrees Celsius.
This is an extremely difficult requirement, because at high temperatures the work will be fragile or not as desired. The authors must create many models, many works, and accept that after firing, sometimes only a part of the result is achieved. Without enough passion and determination, it is difficult to pursue it to the end.

The challenge is there, but the reward is the joy of creation, the surprising moments when creating a satisfactory work, even beyond expectations.
That urges the authors to be patient, persistent, and work quietly. No need to be grand or lofty, just quietly and meticulously every day, turning their new ideas into reality.
And the most precious thing for all three artists is that they have found a soulmate for their next big plans and aspirations in their artistic journey, regardless of age.

A poetic, harmonious combination of pottery and painting
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Minh, principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, the reunion of the three artists not only enriches the exhibition but also highlights the poetic beauty of ceramics and paintings.
With ceramics, Atlantic is a unique ceramic line not named by three artists, but loved by international customers for its matière surface full of effects like ancient artifacts in shipwrecks in the Atlantic Ocean.
Pandora pottery impresses with its gentle, elegant beauty of color and shimmering, soft glaze like the beauty of a young woman...
This is also the result of decades of passion for ceramic research of artist Vo Van Viet. The Atlantis ceramic line produced by the artist in collaboration with 4seas has affirmed its name and been highly appreciated in demanding markets such as the US, Japan, and Europe in recent times.

In terms of painting, artist Le Dan brings passionate oil paint, sometimes strong and decisive, sometimes gentle and smooth. Artist Tran Chi Ly has a clear and coherent style of creating shapes with tightly arranged blocks, lines and colors with strong contrast.
The combination of pottery and painting seems mismatched but creates a subtle harmonious melody, perhaps because the authors both paint and make pottery, two but one, one but two.
One emotion, two materials, or two materials but the same story. It is a story about life, about the experiences that the authors themselves have gone through and makes the audience sympathize because they see themselves in it.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Tien, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, the exhibition brings a unique artistic space, blending three different personalities with their own styles and shapes.
The works contain many impressive themes, have emotional depth, evoke deep thoughts and inspire a greater love for life.
This unique exhibition also demonstrates the passion for the profession of former lecturers and students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts in continuing the tradition and passing on the passion to the next generation.
