Warmth of Vi and Giam
Thanh Phong said: “Vi and Giam are intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO. I am a native of Nghe An and am well-known for singing Vi and Giam, so I want the audience to know more about this art form.”Artist Le Thanh Phong performs Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs in France. Along with the cheerful musical ensemble and the spirited lion and dragon dance, Le Thanh Phong's Vi and Giam performance brought the audience a different range of emotions. The entire audience seemed to calm down and hold back their emotions when listening to the young artist sing his affectionate songs. After singing, Thanh Phong shared his feelings with the audience sincerely. The artist expressed: "When I came to France, I remembered the story of Uncle Ho in Paris who warmed himself with a pink brick in the freezing winter. He still remembered his grandmother's Vi and Giam and his mother's lullaby that warmed his heart when he was far from home. More than 100 years later, singing Vi and Giam in the cold of Paris, a son of Nghe An like me felt as if Uncle Ho was still present here." The 9X artist said that he was really touched because after the performance, many uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters in the audience came to shake hands and hug him tightly. Ms. Vuong Lan (a graduate student in France) heard that Thanh Phong was coming to perform, so she arranged her time despite the long distance, taking several trains to come listen to the singing and watch the performance. An elderly audience member named Vinh brought a large video camera to record the program, telling Thanh Phong that in France, he listened to many Vietnamese folk songs and knew the melodies by heart: "You sang Tu Hoa so movingly, I often hear you sing Vi and Giam". Thanh Phong recalled that after the show, when the Organizing Committee took him to a Vietnamese restaurant in District 13 for dinner, as soon as he entered, the owner recognized the young artist and called out: "Husband! Son! Singer Thanh Phong is here!" and ran to hug him. She said: "Every day I open YouTube to listen to you sing to ease my homesickness. It's been 5 years and I still haven't been back to my hometown, I miss home so much, listening to you sing, I feel less sad, Phong". In response to her feelings, Thanh Phong sang a song advising Nghe Tinh: When I leave, the stone is soft and my feet are hard, while you stay at home, still steadfast as copper, even though the north wind and winter rain come, I will roll up my sleeves and return, the boat of righteousness is firmly at the helm, united in heart... He recalled with emotion: "Outside, the rain is pouring down in Paris, cold and wet, but inside, human love is so warm!"Proud to do cultural diplomacy
