At the regular press conference for the fourth quarter of 2024 and a press meeting on the occasion of the new year 2025 organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the afternoon of January 7, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hien - Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), said that since 2018, E5 bio-fuel has been widely sold in the national market, but the consumption trend is decreasing due to many reasons.
Specifically, the price of E5 gasoline is not much different from mineral gasoline, so it has not encouraged and attracted consumers to use this type of gasoline. Moreover, the communication has not reached the level that consumers trust to use it. In addition, with the current economic development, consumers have more modern means of transportation, so they use more types of gasoline with higher quality.
Regarding this issue, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized that, in order to develop E5 bio-fuel, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has carried out many tasks in the past. In particular, even in the issue of managing gasoline prices and managing supply and demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade always requires creating a space to encourage consumers to use it.
Faced with the downward trend of E5 gasoline consumption, the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have issued documents and directives to promote the consumption of E5 gasoline. Notably, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned the Department of Science and Technology to be the unit in charge of implementing Decision 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, to summarize and comprehensively evaluate the implementation of the Decision on promulgating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, thereby, summarizing and reporting to the Prime Minister for consideration.
Pursuant to Decision No. 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on promulgating a roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a Directive on implementing Resolution No. 53/2012/QD-TTg. Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned tasks to units under the Ministry and agencies, departments of industry and trade, and petroleum traders to organize the implementation of this content.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also issued many documents urging and directing businesses, distributors and petroleum wholesalers to implement, trade, consume and distribute E5 gasoline.
Previously, analysts have pointed out: E5 biofuel is a fuel containing 5% bioethanol by volume and 95% traditional gasoline by volume. Currently, bioethanol in Vietnam is mainly produced from the main raw material of dried cassava chips. Biofuel has been used in many countries around the world for many years and is considered a solution to protect the environment, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
In addition to environmental protection benefits, the use of E5 biofuel also brings many benefits to the vehicle engine and contributes to ensuring energy security, not being dependent on fuel imports, curbing the increase in oil prices, and stabilizing energy. Furthermore, the use of E5 biofuel also creates the development of raw material areas for ethanol production, creating green vegetation to reduce the impact of storms, floods, erosion, and combat climate change.
