“I see that young people have a strong tendency to return to traditional culture. Looking closely at the digital platforms I manage such as Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok, etc., I see that Gen Z has many very inspiring traditional art performances. They are very creative, making clips based on Vi, Giam folk songs or using Vi, Giam materials, etc. and they are spreading strongly, attracting great interactions,” Thanh Phong said.

Le Thanh Phong revealed that he and the UNESCO Art Troupe of Nghe An Folk Heritage will soon organize a photo exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Songs being recognized as a World Cultural Heritage.

Vi and Giam folk songs are two folk singing styles (without musical accompaniment) created by the Nghe Tinh community hundreds of years ago. Vi and Giam are practiced at every moment of life such as lulling children to sleep, farming, rowing, weaving, milling rice, fishing on rivers, etc., performed with different states and emotions such as happiness, sadness of one person and of many people.

The Vietnamese community in the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh considers Vi Dam folk songs as a part of life and the identity of the countryside of Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

On November 27, 2014, at the 9th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Paris, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization officially recognized the Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs of Vietnam as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
