Cat Ba, Do Son ready to welcome tourists

The participation of local authorities and the efforts of businesses have contributed to the basic restoration of tourism activities in Cat Ba and Do Son.

In the first 9 months of 2024, about 1 million tourists out of a total of 2.7 million tourists coming to Cat Ba chose to travel on Lan Ha Bay.

These are the two key tourist attractions of Hai Phong city, making the greatest contribution to the development of tourism in the Port City. Urgently rebuild Cat Hai District (the administrative management unit of Cat Ba archipelago) and Do Son District, the two mainland localities of Hai Phong most severely affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi). The storm's winds have broken most of the trees in restaurants and hotels in the area. The infrastructure of many major tourism brands has been severely damaged. Overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 in Cat Ba is even more difficult due to traffic disruption, power outages, water outages, and internet outages across the entire island district in the early days after the storm. According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai District, under the direction of the city, the initiative of the locality and the support of departments and branches, the first thing to be implemented is to break the isolation of Cat Ba Island. One day after the storm, the cleaning of trash at ferries - the transit point for people and vehicles from Hai Phong mainland to Cat Ba island - was urgently carried out, ensuring safe berths and conditions for ships to transport rescue forces, food and provisions to the island as well as support people moving from the island to the mainland and vice versa. On Cat Ba island, the district mobilized local forces with the support of armed forces to clear internal traffic on the island, prioritizing the main route connecting Cai Vieng ferry to the town and communes on the island. Electricity, water and internet were gradually restored. Up to this point, the roads on the island have been basically clean and about 30% of restaurants and hotels have resumed operations. It is expected that by October 1, about 90% of restaurants and hotels in Cat Ba will operate normally. Mr. Pham Truong, the investor of M' Gallery Hotel (the first 5-star hotel in Cat Ba), said that after the storm, calling repairmen from the city to Cat Ba was almost impossible due to the long distance. Therefore, all leaders and employees of the hotel joined hands to fix and clean up, and up to now, M'Gallery has almost 100% repaired the damage after the storm. The hotel has been welcoming guests in the past time and this weekend (September 28 - 29) will welcome about 200 tourists from Europe. Positive recovery

Vice Chairman of Cat Hai District People's Committee Nguyen Quang Vinh said that up to now, about 3,000 athletes have registered to participate in the VTV LP Bank International Marathon - Cat Ba Sunset Colors 2024. The special thing about the races is that many relatives will accompany the athletes to experience local tourism products. This will be a very good opportunity for Cat Ba tourism to restart and recover positively after the storm. In Do Son, the district restarted tourism with the opening activity being the Buffalo Fighting Festival. After 35 years of restoring the festival, this is the first year the festival has been postponed from the traditional date of August 9 of the lunar calendar every year to August 19 of the lunar calendar (September 21 of the solar calendar) so that the district and related units can overcome the consequences of storm No. 3.

On the same day, September 21, the final night of Miss Vietnam Tourism Global 2024 took place in Do Son. According to Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Son District, these are important activities that contribute to creating a series of products in the Fall-Winter season to attract tourists, making Do Son an attractive tourist destination all year round. Mr. Pham Duy Khanh, Head of the Organizing Committee of Miss Vietnam Tourism Global 2024, shared that Do Son is already a famous tourism brand of the Port City. This year, the Organizing Committee decided to choose Do Son as the venue for the final night to contribute to spreading the long-standing tourism brand of the Port City to domestic and international friends. A quick note from a Vietnam News Agency reporter, in Do Son, in addition to tourists coming to watch the Buffalo Fighting Festival and the final night of the Miss Vietnam Global Tourism Contest 2024, Do Son also attracts many tourists who are golfers to play friendly games at 2 golf courses in the district. According to the district's report, in the past 9 months, Do Son welcomed about 3.5 million visitors. In 2024, Do Son strives to welcome 3.8 million visitors. Data reported by the People's Committee of Cat Hai district shows that in the past 9 months, nearly 3 million visitors came to Cat Ba, including about 810,000 international visitors. Notably, about 900,000 visitors visited and stayed overnight on Lan Ha Bay. This is a group of visitors with high spending ability, making an important contribution to increasing local budget revenue. Currently, tourism and services account for about 75% of the economic proportion of Cat Hai district. Regarding tourist service conditions, the district has 313 accommodation establishments with 6,566 rooms. Of which, 2 tourist accommodation establishments have been recognized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as meeting 5-star standards with over 1,000 rooms and many diverse services for visitors and vacationers on the island. Along with that is a system of modern cruise ships operating on the bays of Cat Ba archipelago. These cruise ships have been gradually meeting the needs of high-spending tourists, especially international tourists. The system of food service establishments in the area has also been invested and upgraded in scale and quality, with 77 food service establishments, meeting the needs of tourists when coming to Cat Ba.
