Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs joins hands to support Lao Cai people to recover after historic storm and flood

(Dan Tri) - Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi suggested that Lao Cai province should continue to pay attention to people's lives, especially families whose people died or lost their homes due to the recent storm and flood.
Implementing the direction of the General Secretary, President and Prime Minister, on September 26, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi led a working delegation to visit and present gifts to people in Lao Cai province affected by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi). Also joining the delegation were representatives of the Department of Social Protection, the Vietnam Children's Fund, Dan Tri newspaper... On the Lao Cai side, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Giang Thi Dung received and worked with the working delegation, also attending were Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lao Cai province Nguyen Thi Hai Anh, and related units. At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi expressed his deep sympathy for the losses that Lao Cai people had to bear after Typhoon Yagi, especially families whose relatives died due to storms and floods. The Deputy Minister also highly appreciated the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in Lao Cai province before, during and after the historic storm. He suggested that local authorities continue to pay attention to people's lives in the coming time, especially providing timely and appropriate support to families whose people died or lost their homes. For areas that are not safe, the province also needs to quickly evacuate people to safe places and rebuild the lives of people in affected areas such as Nu village, Nam Tong... The Deputy Minister also emphasized that Lao Cai province needs to focus on natural disaster prevention and response, strengthen forecasting, early warning and environmental protection by reforesting bare hills, as this is the cause of landslides and flash floods. To effectively carry out these tasks, the province needs to invest in improving the capacity of its staff, equipping specialized equipment and upgrading infrastructure. Emphasizing the determination of the Party and State to leave no one behind, he suggested that the locality carefully review people's living conditions and, if necessary, propose that the Central Government distribute rice to people, each affected household will be provided with at least 15kg of rice per month, for a maximum of 3 months. Vice Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Giang Thi Dung expressed her deep gratitude for the timely and meaningful attention and encouragement of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and Dan Tri newspaper to the ethnic people in Lao Cai during this difficult time. Ms. Dung summarized that during the flood caused by the circulation of storm No. 3, all 9 districts in Lao Cai province were affected. In particular, 6/9 districts, towns and cities had people killed or injured. Up to now, Lao Cai has recorded 252 dead and missing people, including 63 children. Floods have isolated and divided many communes; the transportation, power grid and telecommunications systems have been severely affected. "In the 100 years since the province was founded, Lao Cai has never faced such difficulties," said Ms. Dung. On this occasion, on behalf of the Ministry's leaders, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi presented 100 million VND to support children in Lao Cai province affected by storm No. 3. On the same morning, the working delegation visited, encouraged and supported people affected by storm No. 3 in Quang Kim commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai, with the hope that people would soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
Sharing the difficulties with the locality, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi hoped that people would continue to uphold the spirit of solidarity, strive to overcome pain and loss, and join hands with the government to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Here, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi, Director of Lao Cai Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Hai Anh, journalist Nguyen Xuan Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Dan Tri newspaper - presented 50 gifts to 50 families in difficult circumstances, from the budget of the Department of Social Protection (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs). In particular, on this occasion, the Ministry supported the construction of two houses, using funds from voluntary contributions of at least one day's salary from cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the Ministry's units, following the call of the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the support of readers of Dan Tri newspaper. Previously, Dan Tri newspaper donated 2 billion VND to the Lao Cai Provincial Fatherland Front Committee to support the reconstruction of Nu village, and designated the construction of 37 houses for affected households. On September 13, the newspaper also donated 10 tons of rice and 200 blankets and mosquito nets to people in Bao Yen district. On September 16 and 17, Dan Tri newspaper continued to donate 10 tons of rice and 3 tons of necessities including 220 rechargeable flashlights, 220 solar lights, 3 generators, 500 doses of medicine, 200 bottles of cooking oil, 220 packets of spices and 220 bottles of disinfectant spray to people in Gia Thuong and Tan Ben villages of Viet Tien commune, Bao Yen district. In addition, the newspaper supported 3 households that lost their houses with 5 million VND each, including 2 households that lost relatives and 1 household in especially difficult circumstances. On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi and the delegation also visited and presented gifts to two families in especially difficult circumstances in Quang Kim commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai. The delegation visited the family of Ms. Vang Thi Chuong, a poor household with especially difficult circumstances in Lang San village, Quang Minh commune. Having just met with the Ministry’s leaders, Ms. Chuong expressed her wish to be supported to rebuild her house which was in danger of collapsing at any time. In response to the woman’s wish, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi assigned Dan Tri Newspaper to call for donations and coordinate with the local authorities to quickly rebuild the house for her family before winter approaches. Ms. Chuong expressed her emotion when her family's long-standing dream of having a solid house to stabilize their lives was about to come true. The delegation visited the family of Mrs. Vang Thi Chuong (84 years old), a poor resident in Lang San village. Sharing the situation of the two families, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi gave each family a gift to encourage them, and Dan Tri newspaper gave each family 3 million VND.
