Flash Flood in Lang Nu: 1 more body found, 10 people still missing

After 16 days of searching, authorities found the body of Nguyen Van V., a victim in a family of four who died or went missing in the Lang Nu flash flood.

On the afternoon of September 26, information from the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department said that the authorities found another body of a missing victim in the horrific flash flood and landslide in Lang Nu (Phuc Khanh Commune, Bao Yen, Lao Cai). Accordingly, the body of the victim found was Nguyen Van V. (born in 1992). Nguyen Van V. is the son of Nguyen Van S. (born in 1968 - whose body was found on the morning of September 18) and Nguyen Thi M. (born in 1968 - whose body was found on September 24). Mr. S.'s family of 4 people all died or went missing (including Mr. Hoang Van M., born in 1937, who died) after the horrific flash flood in the early morning of September 10. So far, the authorities have found the bodies of all 4 people. The authorities determined that the horrific flash flood in Lang Nu village killed 57 people. There are still 10 people missing. Also on September 24, 8 victims injured in the flash flood recovered after nearly half a month of treatment at Bao Yen District General Hospital and were discharged to a new temporary residence. The number of people who are safe at present is 87. Currently, Lao Cai provincial authorities are still mobilizing hundreds of local people and equipment, excavators, etc. to focus on searching for the missing victims. Previously, after the army of Military Region 2, border guards, and sniffer dogs withdrew from Lang Nu on the afternoon of September 24, local forces continued to search for the victims for another 5 days. After 5 days, the province and district will continue to meet with the people to ask for opinions to come up with the next plan. Lang Nu village is located near the foot of Voi mountain, where 167 households with 760 Tay people have lived for many generations. Flash flood in the early morning of September 10 buried 33 households and affected 40 families.
