Speaking to reporters, Mr Zelensky said a full deal was being worked out and that it would be a “large-scale comprehensive agreement” that would reflect “the American vision”. However, the new version would not include US involvement in Ukraine’s nuclear power plants – a proposal made by US President Donald Trump last week.
Earlier, on March 20, President Trump announced that a rare earth agreement with Ukraine would be signed soon.
The US and Ukraine were originally scheduled to sign the mineral deal at the end of February, but it was not possible due to a tense debate between President Trump and President Zelensky at the White House. The two sides later met again and agreed on a revised version as mentioned above.
Regarding the negotiations in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh over the past three days, President Zelensky said that territorial issues were not part of the negotiations between Ukraine and the United States.
