On February 28, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu arrived in Beijing, making a one-day visit to China.

Mr. Shoigu held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and then met with host President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.
According to TASS news agency, meeting with President Xi Jinping, a senior Russian security official affirmed that the meeting with the Chinese leader was agreed upon in a short time " highlighting the special nature of bilateral dialogue".
Earlier, in a meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Mr. Shoigu said that his visit to China this time as a representative of President Vladimir Putin was to emphasize the consensus between Moscow and Beijing on many international issues.
" Russia and China have similar approaches to important international and regional issues. The two countries share common positions at the United Nations and the Security Council, as well as at the Group of 20 (G20) and in many other organizations," the Russian Security Council Secretary said.
Mr. Shoigu also expressed gratitude to China for "supporting Russia's presidency of the BRICS group of emerging economies last year."
For his part, Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the two countries to "resolutely defend the results of World War II and historical truth, maintain global peace and promote the development of the planet," noting that Moscow and Beijing were both "the main winners" in that war.
In a statement at a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian commented on Shoigu's visit to Beijing, saying: "China and Russia are partners in promoting comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era. We have always maintained close high-level cooperation."
