Types of bank cards that can be used abroad

Bank card is understood as a means of payment used to perform payment services through banks in addition to other means of payment such as cash, checks, payment orders (payment orders), collection orders.

Not only for domestic use, cardholders can use bank cards issued by card-issuing organizations in Vietnam to make legal card transactions, including payment for goods and services abroad according to the provisions of Vietnamese law.

Below are the types of bank cards that can be used abroad:

International credit card

International credit cards are essentially a form of bank lending. Customers will be advanced a sum of money to meet their spending needs. International credit cards branded Mastercard, Visa, JCB are valid worldwide. This type of card can be used for payment at all regular POS machines and POS machines with the Mastercard, Visa, JCB logo.

With international credit, when paying at POS machines, you do not need to enter a PIN. Note that if you pay or withdraw money in foreign currency, you will be charged a foreign currency conversion fee.

International Debit Card

International debit cards are also an option for customers traveling abroad. Most of these cards are supported by Mastercard, Visa, JCB brands and are available worldwide.

Unlike credit cards, debit cards do not allow users to borrow money. Cardholders must first deposit money into their accounts before making payments. International debit cards can be used for transactions anytime, anywhere. When paying at POS machines, debit cards require a PIN.

Prepaid Card

A prepaid card is a card that allows the cardholder to make card transactions within the value of the money loaded onto the card corresponding to the amount the cardholder has prepaid to the card issuer. That means when the cardholder has a prepaid card, he or she can “load money” onto the card through the bank’s channels and spend on the amount loaded.

Some prepaid cards can be used overseas but customers should check with their card provider for details of any restrictions and fees that may apply.
