On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, clean vegetable growers at Phuoc Hiep Agricultural Cooperative (Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh Province) and Thuan Nghia Agricultural Cooperative (Tay Son District) had a full and prosperous Tet thanks to a good harvest and good prices. Spring colors seem to be flooding the VietGAP green vegetable villages.

Coming to the VietGAP green vegetable villages of Phuoc Hiep Agricultural Cooperative in the first days of the new year of Giap Thin, we recorded the busy atmosphere of vegetable growers rushing to the fields to harvest vegetables in time to bring them to the processing house, contribute packaging, and supply to supermarkets and clean vegetable stalls.

Mr. Tran Van Tien (in Luat Chanh village) excitedly said: “This year, my family planted more than 4 sao of vegetables including: green mustard, chrysanthemum, Malabar spinach, okra, bitter melon, cucumber. Thanks to the favorable weather, the vegetables grew quite well, with higher yields than previous years.

The good news is that vegetable prices increase during Tet, so people have a stable source of income. With 4 sao of green vegetables, this Tet vegetable crop, my family has an income of more than 20 million VND, after deducting all expenses, the profit is more than 15 million VND."

Thanks to the natural favor of fertile alluvial soil, in recent years, the vegetable growing areas in the villages of Luat Chanh, Dai Le, Tuan Le, Tu Thuy, Xuan My in Phuoc Hiep commune have been expanded by the people to grow clean vegetables according to VietGAP standards.

Mr. Pham Long Thang, Director of Phuoc Hiep Agricultural Cooperative, said: The cooperative has established 10 groups of households growing vegetables with the same interests, with 256 participating farming households, producing 13.5 hectares of various types of green vegetables.

Thanks to the area near the riverbank, cool air, fertile soil, and suitable care, the vegetables grow and develop well.

What is special is that farmers grow vegetables organically, using composted manure, sawdust, straw... as fertilizers, so the products are highly trusted by consumers and have favorable output.

“Before, during and after Tet, the cooperative processes, packages and supplies supermarkets and clean vegetable stalls with an average of 0.5 - 1 ton of various green vegetables every day. Vegetable prices increase 2 - 3 times compared to normal days, so vegetable growers have a good income, welcoming a prosperous and fulfilling Tet, everyone is happy!”, said Mr. Thang.

At Thuan Nghia Agricultural Cooperative (Tay Son district), thanks to stable prices at a high level, during the first days of the new year of Giap Thin, there are always many farmers in the vegetable fields taking care of and harvesting vegetables to supply the market in time.

Mr. Tran Van Nam (in Thuan Nghia block, Phu Phong town) said: "My family grows more than 3 sao of onions to supply the Tet market.

The price of onions has remained stable at 15,000 VND/kg since before Tet, so vegetable growers have made a good profit. With 3 sao of onions, my family has earned more than 9 million VND and is continuing to harvest to sell to traders.

In Thuan Nghia vegetable village, in addition to vegetables considered as "brands" such as: green mustard, chrysanthemum greens, cucumbers, bitter melon, snow peas, and spices... this Tet season, members of vegetable growing groups with the same interests also introduced new vegetable varieties such as yellow cauliflower and white cauliflower to grow on an area of 1 hectare.

Ms. Dao Thi Di (in Thuan Nghia vegetable village) planted 1 sao (500 m2) of white cauliflower. Although it is a new vegetable, the first crop gave very surprising results.

“Vegetables have high yields and good prices, so I have a good profit. With a price of 35,000 VND/kg, my family earns about 5 million VND. In the near future, not only me but also members of the vegetable growing group with the same hobby will expand the area of cauliflower cultivation to increase income,” said Ms. Di.

According to Mr. Quach Van Cau, Director of Thuan Nghia Agricultural Cooperative, this Tet holiday, the cooperative will supply supermarkets and safe vegetable stalls with more than 3.5 tons of various vegetables.

“In the near future, the cooperative will continue to expand its production scale, diversify vegetable varieties, and invest in completing a systematic internal road system to serve tourists who want to experience actual production in the vegetable village,” said Mr. Cau.
