Having studied, lived and worked in France as an engineer for more than 10 years, however, after a family incident, Mr. Hoang decided to return to his hometown to follow his father in farming. Currently, Mr. Minh Hoang is the owner of Thien Nong farm (Cay Da village, Phu Van commune, Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province).

Thien Nong Farm has a total of 50 hectares, of which 30 hectares are rubber, 8 hectares are pepper and 12 hectares are avocado - Ong Hoang avocado brand. All plants in Minh Hoang's garden can be monitored remotely, thanks to the application of IoT (Internet of things) technology to plants.

Apply maximum number of plants to each tree in the garden

Returning to Vietnam to follow his father's career, Mr. Hoang realized that agriculture in his hometown still faced many difficulties and that farmers still had to work hard. "Coming from a farming family, I have had a desire to apply technology to agriculture since I was young. Seeing people around me working hard but with low efficiency, that inspired me to apply automation to agriculture. The purpose is to help people reduce hardship and increase efficiency in agricultural production," said Mr. Hoang.

After a period of research, Mr. Hoang has now put into use the AutoAgri app developed by him and his colleagues. This is an application that helps farmers monitor their entire garden through smart devices.

At the roots of the plants, Mr. Hoang equipped sensors that provide information about humidity, temperature, and soil nutrition. These sensors act as a supervisor, constantly updating information for the garden owner.

"If the humidity is low, farmers can choose automatic watering, drip irrigation, and watering each tree in the garden on the application. The signal will then be transmitted to the solenoid valve to open and close accordingly," Mr. Hoang said about the system he is using.

In addition, through the application, farmers can also perform other functions such as: fertilizing, monitoring farmers mowing grass, harvesting products, monitoring security in the garden...

"As the Director of Binh Phuoc Digital Agricultural Services Cooperative and owner of Thien Nong Farm, Mr. Hoang has recently consulted and transferred technology to dozens of businesses. From there, he has expanded simple but effective technical solutions, aiming to form satellite farms, creating jobs for local ethnic minorities," said Ms. Dao Thi Lanh - President of the Farmers' Association of Binh Phuoc province.

Currently, Mr. Hoang is implementing a project to digitize each tree - each tree is a website. According to Mr. Hoang, with this model, when consumers buy avocados, or any other product from the garden, they will be able to access all information about that product.

"Through the app, buyers can know the process of producing an avocado. Know what fertilizer the avocado has been fertilized with, how it is watered, and when it is harvested. Buyers can track the entire development process of the avocado from when it is still a flower on the tree, until it is in the hands of consumers," Mr. Hoang shared.

To date, Mr. Hoang’s farm is one of the farms that has successfully applied IoT (Internet of things) to agriculture. His model has become a typical high-tech agricultural model in Binh Phuoc province.

Digital agriculture transformation cannot go it alone

Mr. Hoang's digital model in agriculture has initially achieved certain successes. He is often invited to teach and share at seminars on digitalization in agriculture.

With many people interested in the model he built, Mr. Hoang realized that he needed to share these values with the community. In agriculture, Mr. Hoang always believes that "if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together". For that reason, he established the Binh Phuoc Digital Agricultural Service Cooperative.

Mr. Hoang said that the purpose of building the cooperative is for people to exchange and share about techniques and digital technology in agriculture. At the same time, it supports people in transferring technology and building brands. Through the cooperative, it ensures stable output for people's agricultural products.

Ms. Dao Thi Lanh - President of the Farmers' Association of Binh Phuoc province, said: "During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, Thien Nong farm of farmer Dang Duong Minh Hoang supported dozens of farming households in Binh Phuoc to consume agricultural products, through linking with supermarket channels in Ho Chi Minh City. Besides, Mr. Hoang also actively participated in charity activities, helping people overcome difficulties, joining hands to repel Covid-19".

Currently, the cooperative, of which Mr. Hoang is the director, has 12 official members. All members are instructed on how to use the AutoAgri app. Agricultural products from members must be cared for according to a common process, ensuring consistency in quality. "When farmers use the AutoAgri app, they will be provided with knowledge about the process of cultivating and caring for crops. This ensures that the quality of agricultural products produced is not different between their own garden and that of their neighbors. Only then will it be easier to export to domestic and even foreign markets," said Mr. Hoang.

"In his role as Director of Binh Phuoc Digital Agricultural Service Cooperative, farmer Dang Duong Minh Hoang has proactively participated in conferences and seminars connecting trade with domestic and foreign enterprises. Contributing to promoting the image of Binh Phuoc agricultural products and finding contacts to help some farmers and enterprises find outlets for local agricultural products," said Mr. Tran Quoc Duy - Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Binh Phuoc province.

In addition to the 12 cooperative members using the app, Mr. Hoang also shared the AutoAgri app for free to 1,400 other farming households and facilities in Binh Phuoc. Up to now, many gardeners in Binh Phuoc province have accessed Mr. Hoang's model and have had initial successes.

For the young farmer, the biggest goal is to develop the Binh Phuoc agricultural product brand and improve the lives of farmers. "Optimizing the logistics process, connecting farmers with the final purchasing stage. Raising the value of Vietnamese agricultural products, building a lifelong agricultural product brand for individuals and families in society. Reducing costs, creating a brand, increasing profits and bringing foreign currency to the country. That is all my goal," Mr. Hoang affirmed.
