Farmers have bad harvests and vegetables are scarce.
La Huong safe vegetable growing area located along Cam Le River (Cam Le District, Da Nang City) is the largest vegetable growing area in the city with an area of nearly 10 hectares. It is known that each year this place supplies hundreds of tons of vegetables to Da Nang City.
In recent days, many farmers in the La Huong vegetable growing area have begun to sow seeds after the last crop was almost completely damaged due to prolonged cold rain.
Mr. Le Si Ca (Hoa Tho Dong ward, Cam Le district) said that his family has about 7 sao of land growing all kinds of vegetables and fruits. Recently, he and his wife have no green vegetables to supply to the market.
“If the weather had been favorable, we would have started harvesting vegetables to sell before Tet. During the recent rains, the Cam Le River rose, flooding most of the land in this vegetable growing area. My family recently sold a few kilos of bitter melon that were lucky to have left over, and vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, etc. all had to be replanted,” said Mr. Ca.

Not far away, the vegetable garden of Mr. Nguyen Van Phu and his wife also faced similar difficulties. Mr. Phu said that this year he planted bell peppers 5 times but all failed due to bad weather. Especially due to the frost in early December, most of the farmers' crops were damaged.
Mr. Tran Van Hoang - Director of La Huong Safe Vegetable Production Cooperative, said that recently, farmers' crops have suffered a lot of damage due to bad weather.
Vegetable production for the market has decreased by more than half. In particular, vegetables such as bell peppers, green peppers, tomatoes... are almost unavailable for sale.
Vegetable prices are high
Meanwhile, at markets in Da Nang such as Cam Le market and Hoa Khanh market, the price of green vegetables has nearly doubled compared to normal days. Water spinach, mustard greens, and amaranth cost around 15,000 - 20,000 VND/bunch.
Basil and cinnamon also cost from 100,000 VND/kg or more, double or even triple the price compared to before.
A trader at Hoa Khanh market said: “Just like every year, after floods or bad weather, vegetable supplies are scarce and vegetable prices increase. Sometimes there are not enough vegetables for us to import to sell. If the weather from now until Tet is not favorable, vegetable prices will likely remain high.”

To avoid overwhelming buyers with vegetable prices, many vendors have reduced the number of vegetables in each bundle. Loose bundles of mustard greens, sweet potato leaves, and chrysanthemum greens... cost between 10,000 and 15,000 VND.
At Hoa Cuong wholesale market, which specializes in supplying agricultural products to other markets in Da Nang, traders are also facing difficulties because the amount of imported vegetables has decreased sharply.
Hoang Mai Loan (student of Da Nang University of Technology) said that green vegetables are an indispensable part of the daily menu, helping to save on living expenses. However, with the current high price of vegetables, you will have to reduce dishes with green vegetables.
