This afternoon (March 11), on Nguyen Trai Street (Hanoi), many people poured into the street to watch the procession of the 5 Moc villages. Authorities had to put up ropes to prevent congestion and ensure traffic safety.

Nestled on the southern bank of the To Lich River, southwest of the ancient Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the 5 Moc villages is a name that evokes an ancient land with hundreds of years of history. The predecessor of this place was the Ke Moc region, consisting of 7 prosperous villages: Thuong Dinh, Ha Dinh, Giap Nhat, Chinh Kinh, Cu Loc, Quan Nhan and Phung Khoang. Among them, the 5 villages of Giap Nhat, Chinh Kinh, Cu Loc, Quan Nhan and Phung Khoang joined together to "tie cha" - a ritual of close brotherhood. Later, when Chinh Kinh and Cu Loc merged, the Ke Moc region had only 5 villages left, and the name "5 Moc villages" was born from that, preserving the mark of a period of close attachment.

Cu Chinh Communal House worships La Dai Lieu - the Left General under King Ngo Quyen, one of the 12 famous warlords of the ancient Te Giang region. Quan Nhan Communal House is the residence of Trung Nghia Dai Vuong Hung Lang Cong and Saint Truong My Nuong - a talented and beautiful girl of the village. Giap Nhat Communal House worships Phung Luong - a general who fought side by side with hero Phung Hung, who contributed to repelling the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century. Phung Khoang Communal House is dedicated to Thuong Dang Phuc Than Doan Thuong - a famous general of the Ly Dynasty, a symbol of strength and loyalty.

Legend has it that in ancient times, when natural disasters struck, the Ke Moc region fell into a miserable famine. Corpses lay scattered along the roads, and epidemics were rampant, causing misery to the people. In the midst of the disaster, the people of Phung Khoang village were ordered by the king to cook porridge and make rice balls to relieve hunger. A boy who received a rice ball from the villagers did not keep it for himself, but shared it with four other boys. From that small act, the five became sworn brothers, working together to build a career, turning the wild land into prosperous villages - the predecessors of the five Moc villages today.

The festival of 5 Moc villages was born from the custom of "ket cha", which is the bond that connects Giap Nhat, Chinh Kinh, Cu Loc, Quan Nhan and Phung Khoang in the spirit of mutual support and sharing. Today, the festival is held at four communal houses in two districts: Giap Nhat, Cu Chinh, Quan Nhan (Nhan Chinh ward) and Phung Khoang (Trung Van ward), as a living proof of the immortal village love.

In the "feng dang hoa coc" years of ancient times, when the harvest was abundant, the villagers had the conditions to organize a big festival. Since 1992, the people have agreed that every five years, the festival will be held on the 11th and 12th of the second lunar month, hosted by each village in turn. In the years when there is no festival, each village still maintains a small festival according to traditional customs. The highlight of the festival is the unique "con dy danh bong" dance, imbued with folk culture, making anyone who witnesses it unable to take their eyes off it.
