According to Mr. Dinh, to prevent measles from spreading and developing into an outbreak, the CDC of Ben Tre province has directed specialized units to strengthen monitoring of cases, promptly detect outbreaks and implement effective early prevention measures; requesting treatment facilities to prepare medicine, isolation plans, and triage treatment of cases, to avoid cross-infection in treatment facilities.
"However, the long-term solution to minimize deaths from measles is to implement vaccination, especially for children aged 6 months to under 9 months. It is expected that by March 20, the unit will conduct a measles vaccination campaign for 4,400 children in the province," Mr. Dinh shared.
Similarly, the Dong Thap Provincial Department of Health has just planned to vaccinate about 17,000 children (including those who are currently in the locality) against measles. It is expected that the measles vaccination will be carried out simultaneously from March 21 to 23.
In addition, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province requested the Department of Education and Training to direct educational institutions to implement measures to prevent and control measles according to the instructions of the health sector; monitor the health of children and students and immediately notify medical facilities when detecting suspected cases of measles for timely isolation and treatment; mobilize parents to take their children for full and timely vaccination.
