On August 30 in Thai Nguyen city, Thai Nguyen province, researchers, artisans, and representatives of the San Chay ethnic group from three provinces including Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, and Yen Bai participated in a discussion program with the theme "Preserving the cultural heritage of the San Chay ethnic group in contemporary life". The discussion was organized by the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups in coordination with the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association.
The San Chay ethnic group belongs to the Tay-Thai language group with a population of over 200,000 people, residing in 58 provinces and cities nationwide, mainly concentrated in the northeastern provinces. The San Chay people are also known as Hon Ban, Chung, Trai...

However, in the current context, the culture of ethnic minorities in our country in general and the culture of the San Chay ethnic group in particular are facing changes, posing many challenges in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
That is the fading away, the disappearance of some elements that are the cultural identity of ethnic groups. Many cultural values that were once considered unique and characteristic are at risk of being lost, such as folk festivals, traditional customs and practices that are gradually being less practiced, forms of folk cultural activities such as folk songs and folk dances are declining, many traditional musical instruments are no longer loved by many knowledgeable people...
Preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the San Chay ethnic group in Vietnam in general and representatives of the San Chay ethnic group in Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai provinces in particular is the goal of the discussion.

Master Tran Van Ai, Museum of Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups, shared that in order to preserve and promote the value of the San Chay ethnic cultural heritage, it is necessary to actively care for and support artisans who are holding knowledge and experience related to the cultural heritage of the ethnic group and encourage them to pass on their knowledge and experience to the younger generation.
In addition, it is possible to open classes to teach and train on methods of conservation, skills and promotion of cultural heritage values in each province. In addition, it is also necessary to do a good job of propaganda on the conservation and promotion of the cultural heritage values of the San Chay ethnic group in appropriate forms such as on the media, social networks, through activities in each unit (schools, youth organizations, fronts, unions, women's groups, etc.)
It is even possible to bring San Chay cultural heritage into schools with local education programs for primary and secondary school students, and ethnic boarding schools so that they have the opportunity to learn and experience...
