According to Ba Ria - Vung Tau Electricity Company, from the beginning of 2025, the total commercial electricity consumption of the province reached more than 1.15 billion kWh, equal to 93.83% compared to the same period in 2024. In particular, the amount of commercial electricity from 110kV transformer stations decreased by 18.68%. The main reason is that some factories in the chemical sector are not operating at maximum capacity due to market fluctuations and the restructuring process; meanwhile, some steel manufacturing enterprises have just entered the recovery phase after a difficult period.
However, according to Deputy Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Electricity Company Tran Thanh Hai, some economic sectors have shown signs of recovery, while the province is actively implementing many solutions to promote economic growth. It is expected that the total commercial electricity output of the province in 2025 will reach more than 9.37 billion kWh, an increase of 10.7% compared to 2024. Particularly in the dry months from April to July, electricity demand is forecast to increase dramatically, up to nearly 3.2 billion kWh, an increase of 14.48% over the same period.
Although electricity demand is forecast to increase this year, the local electricity sector still ensures a stable supply thanks to the diversity in the power generation structure, from thermal power to renewable energy. Currently, the total capacity of power sources in Ba Ria - Vung Tau reaches more than 5,000 MW, distributed across many different grid levels. Of which, about 4,200 MW is connected to the national transmission grid, mainly from large thermal power plants such as Phu My 1, Phu My 2.1, Phu My 2.2, Phu My 3, Phu My 4 and Ba Ria. The 110kV grid receives an additional 477 MW from a combination of thermal power and solar power; there are also additional low-voltage power sources.
Along with ensuring supply, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Power Company focuses on improving reliability and synchronization in the management and operation of the transmission and distribution grid system. Phu My Power Company - the unit supplying electricity to hundreds of large-scale factories in industrial parks - has deployed many technical solutions such as increasing the clearance of power lines passing through densely populated areas and industrial parks; clearing the corridor of the line to limit risks, contributing to ensuring safety and continuity for the production activities of enterprises.
In the period of 2021 - 2024, Southern Power Corporation assigned Ba Ria - Vung Tau Power Company to invest more than 1,480 billion VND in the medium and low voltage grid system and 110kV transformer stations. In 2024 alone, the total disbursed investment capital reached 564 billion VND, serving many important projects such as operating 4 generators for Con Dao; installing 2-40MVA transformers at An Ngai Station (Long Dien district, now Long Dat district)...
According to the leadership of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Electricity Company, the unit has organized to closely monitor and supervise the power grid system, ensuring that there is no overload on 110kV/22kV lines, stations and transformers under normal operating conditions. The high voltage management team and local power companies have been assigned to perform maintenance and handle defects before March 31, 2025.
In addition, a plan to save electricity and shift loads during the dry season of 2025 has also been developed to help the power system operate safely and effectively, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development in the area.
