The event is an opportunity to review and evaluate the achievements of the past year and set creative directions for upcoming film projects, while introducing to the audience for free 29 excellent documentaries made in 2024 over 3 days (March 25-28).

Documentaries are not only propaganda films, but also valuable memories of important stages in the flow of history, culture and society. That is also the mission that the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio has successfully completed in nearly 70 years of formation and development.

Generations of filmmakers here have constantly devoted their hearts and minds to creating films of artistic and technical value, both fulfilling political tasks and serving the propaganda work of the Party and State, and contributing to the nation's historical archives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony and opening of the film screening, Chairman of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio Nguyen Quang Tuan said: "Each work of the Film Studio is not only an artistic product but also a valuable document for future generations. Organizing the annual closing ceremony helps us look back on the past journey, evaluate the quality of the films, and from there have better development directions for the future. This year's films are carefully invested, with rich and in-depth content, especially those films aimed at important events of the country such as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country or the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification...".

Despite its many achievements, the Film Studio is also facing many difficulties. The biggest difficulty is the limitation of technical equipment. The second is that there is no mechanism for widely promoting films. However, with creativity and effort, the Film Studio is still trying to overcome these difficulties so that the films produced are both of high quality and fulfill their political mission.

Currently, the Film Studio is implementing a project to produce 5 documentary films ordered by the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission on the subject of war, expected to be screened on the occasion of the April 30 anniversary. This is an important step, continuing to affirm the role of the Film Studio in preserving history and conveying valuable messages to the public.

Within the framework of the summary meeting and film screening program from March 25-28, 29 films ordered by the State in 2024 were screened at the Company's cinema room at 465 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Hanoi .

These are highly topical works, deeply reflecting economic, social, cultural and historical issues.

Notably, the films not only focus on traditional topics such as war, revolution, highlands, mountainous areas, borders, islands, honoring leaders, celebrities, and national heroes through historical periods and stages, but also expand to new areas such as heritage preservation, cultural development, digital transformation, and changes in modern society.

Among the films shown during the 3-day screening, the highlights include: “President Ho Chi Minh with the Capital of a Thousand Years of Culture” by director Hoang Dung, “Con Co - Heroic Green Island” by directors Trinh Quang Tung and Nguyen Nhu Nam, “Musician Van Cao - The Talent of the Century” by director Dang Thi Linh, “Journey of Love” by director Le Anh Tuan, “There was a time like that” and “Weaving linen by the Mien River” by director Pham Hong Thang, “Ke Go - Miracle of the People’s Heart” by director Nguyen Duc Ngoc, “Neo Noi Song Da” by director Phung Ngoc Tu, “Accompanying History” by directors Nguyen Quang Tuan- Nguyen Anh Ngoc…

As one of the passionate filmmakers with many contributions to the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, screenwriter-director Pham Hong Thang has been in the profession for more than 30 years.

He shared: “I always want my films to not only bring artistic value but also have a widespread influence in the community. Like me, my colleagues - filmmakers of the studio all try to expand the topic, looking for stories that reflect the breath of the times. Currently, issues such as climate change, digital transformation, the impact of technology on life are the new trends of documentaries. The important thing is how these films not only reflect reality but also create empathy and impact on society.”

In 2024, Pham Hong Thang had two outstanding works: the films "Weaving linen by the Mien River" and "There was a time like that", conveying messages of deep humanistic values.

The film “Weaving Linen by the Mien River” vividly recreates the traditional linen weaving craft of ethnic minorities, honoring the skillful hands that preserve national heritage.

Meanwhile, the film "There Was a Time Like That" is a song depicting the image of women who forget themselves and silently sacrifice for national independence.

Pham Hong Thang's authentic, simple and emotional storytelling leaves the audience feeling moved and overwhelmed with emotion when the film ends.

Over nearly 70 years of establishment and development, the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio has contributed valuable films in terms of art and documentation, serving political tasks and preserving national identity. With dedication and tireless efforts, the Studio's filmmakers are affirming their position day by day, continuing to contribute valuable works to the country, opening up many new directions in the creation and development of documentary films.
