Than The Cong, a former Physics major student at Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, is one of the 10 "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces of 2024" that have just been honored.

With "impressive" results in studying, Cong has brought glory to the Fatherland, becoming an inspirational figure in studying efforts for young people.

Cong shared that when he heard the news that he was voted as one of the 10 "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces of 2024", he was very surprised, mixed with joy and happiness.

This award is a motivation for me to continue trying on the next stages, and is also a testament to my tireless efforts over the past time.

With an impressive academic record, especially with the "double" in 2024 including: Gold Medal at the International Physics Olympiad and Gold Medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad, Cong has affirmed that success will come when the effort is worthy.

Cong said that in the first years of secondary school, he pursued Mathematics and participated in city-level competitions to select excellent students, but the results were not as expected. In the 8th grade, he got acquainted with Physics and found this subject very interesting because it helped him explain many phenomena in life.

He gradually got deeper into the subject; especially with the help and guidance of his grandmother (former Physics teacher) and teachers of Le Quy Don Secondary School, Cong became the core of the Physics team, participating in excellent student competitions at the city and provincial levels and winning many high prizes.

In grade 9, Cong participated in the provincial Physics competition and won second prize. With that result, he was admitted directly to grade 10 specializing in Physics at Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.

In the new learning environment, Cong has many advantages to pursue his passion. He continues to strive in his studies and sets goals for himself in national and international competitions.

With the help and guidance of the school's teachers, especially Mr. Nguyen Van Doa, the teacher directly in charge of the Physics Team, Cong continued to assert himself.

In grade 11, Cong won first prize in Physics in the National Excellent Student Competition. He was selected for the National Team to participate in the 2023 Asian Physics Olympiad. He is also the youngest contestant of the Vietnamese delegation to participate in this competition.

As a result, Cong won the Bronze Medal, however, he was not selected for the team to participate in the International Physics Olympiad in 2023. “At this time, I feel very discouraged and quite disappointed in myself, because my goal is to participate in the International Physics Olympiad,” Cong shared.

Thanks to the encouragement of teachers, friends and family, Cong regained his spirit and outlined goals and directions for the next stage.

In 2024, returning for the second time to the Asian Physics Olympiad, Cong excelled as the only contestant of the Vietnamese delegation to win a Gold Medal. Just about 1 month later, Cong continued to bring home a Gold Medal from the International Physics Olympiad.

Cong said, My learning method is not much different from my friends. Besides class time and studying with teachers, I mainly search for documents online to study and actively look for types of problems to solve.

When I encounter difficult problems, I always try to find ways to solve them, even if I have to stay up late. I also said that I am not very good at English, so when studying Physics, I will study Vietnamese textbooks to have a solid foundation, then I will find textbooks in English to study again, that helps me consolidate the basic knowledge and save time when learning new knowledge in a foreign language.

Cong also said that whenever studying is too stressful, he often pauses and participates in socializing with friends or sports activities. That helps him reduce stress, and when he returns to his desk, he will be more interested and in a better mood to conquer new knowledge.

Commenting on his student Than The Cong, Mr. Tran Duy Phuong, Principal of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, said that with his academic achievements, Cong has brought glory to the school in particular, Bac Giang province and Vietnam in general.

Cong's example of effort in studying, perseverance, hard work, determination, not afraid of difficulties, hardships in pursuing goals and passion has inspired the learning of generations of Bac Giang students, affirming the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students of the school.

Le Tan Sang, a student of class 11A10, Ngo Si Lien High School, Bac Giang city, shared: "I really admire Cong's achievements, especially his breakthrough to win 2 Gold Medals at the Physics Olympiad in one year, which no student in Bac Giang has achieved. He is an idol, a role model in my studies for me to strive and follow."

Currently, Cong is studying Electronics and Telecommunications at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Cong sees that science and technology will be the key to breakthrough, especially when Vietnam is promoting investment attraction and development in the Semiconductor Technology and Artificial Intelligence industry, so he hopes to become a semiconductor chip design engineer in the future, to contribute to the development of his homeland.

"Cong's goal is to study abroad. He has applied for scholarships to study in the United States and Singapore in Electrical Engineering. If his application is accepted, during his studies abroad, he will try his best to learn advanced technologies from abroad and then return to Vietnam to contribute to the development of the country," Cong said.

From his own learning efforts, Cong advised young people to make efforts to study, not only knowledge at school, but also knowledge in real life and improve life skills; always try to learn from teachers, friends.../.
