According to MacRumors , the basic iPhone 16 prototype rear camera system includes wide-angle and ultra-wide cameras placed vertically. The most recent iPhones with a vertical camera design are the iPhone 12 and 12 mini, but the difference in the upcoming product is that it is placed in a pill-shaped camera housing instead of a square one like the models launched in 2020.
In fact, the camera cluster that Apple is testing on the basic iPhone 16 prototype has a similar design to the iPhone X that was first released in 2017.

To get a clearer look at what the basic iPhone 16 design looks like, the Majin Bu account recently posted on X an illustration showing off the rear cameras of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus that looks quite similar to what MacRumors shared.
Additionally, the latest iPhone 16 prototypes are said to feature a small Action button similar to the one on the iPhone 15 Pro and a pressure-sensitive, flush-mounted Capture button. Users can swipe the Capture button to change the zoom level on photos and videos. A light tap on the button will focus the camera while a firm press will take a photo or start recording a video.
It remains to be seen how Apple will change the rear camera design on the base iPhone 16 models, but a vertical camera design seems necessary for this phone to be able to offer spatial video recording capabilities.
As for the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is said to have two options to address the overheating issue that occurred with the iPhone 15 Pro. Specifically, the company will use a metal shell for the battery on the iPhone 16 Pro line or a layer of graphene material attached to the phone's processing chip, which helps move heat away from the chip and dissipate heat more effectively than the graphite sheets currently used.
