After 7 years of starting the tea production and processing business, Mr. Duong Ngoc Hoang (Van Hoa hamlet, Van Han commune, Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province) now has a revenue of 3 billion VND per year thanks to making tea.
Experienced in many different fields of study from electricity, mechanics to photography, a little bit of everything. His family has a tea business, so since he was young, Hoang helped his mother deliver tea to Tan Cuong, Thai Nguyen City. Therefore, he had the opportunity to meet many tea artisans and learn the craft from them.
In 2010, Mr. Hoang got married, and in 2017, he invested in building a factory to produce and process tea. At that time, he started making tea and was successful, so he decided to stick with the tea production and processing model.

According to Mr. Hoang, to produce delicious tea products, the stages of selecting varieties, caring for them and harvesting them are very important. In particular, the tea varieties chosen by Mr. Hoang are midland tea and DT1 hybrid tea. These two tea varieties are suitable for planting on slopes of 25 - 30 degrees, suitable for hills with primeval soil and lots of sunlight.

Mr. Hoang shared that after harvesting tea, the yeast must be killed immediately to ensure the process and not reduce the quality of the tea. For tea harvested in the morning, the yeast must not be killed after 13:00, and for tea harvested in the afternoon, if the yeast is killed after 19:00, the quality will not be guaranteed.

"My family's tea factory is located in the tea material area of Van Han commune with a total area of 1,000 hectares, including 100 hectares of organic tea. In addition to purchasing tea from local people, my family also cooperates with about 15-20 tea-growing households to have enough raw materials for production," said Mr. Hoang.

In 2024, Mr. Hoang invested in building a new 600m2 factory on the previously purchased land to produce and process tea at a cost of about 1.5 billion VND. Along with that, Mr. Hoang invested in a modern large-capacity tea drying tube furnace at a cost of 260 million VND. If before, on average, Mr. Hoang consumed 3 - 5 quintals of fresh tea for people every day, now with the new tea drying machine, on average, he can kill 1.2 - 1.4 quintals of fresh tea per hour, 6 - 7 times the capacity of the old tea drying machine.

The advantage of this new tea roasting oven made of corrugated iron is that it reduces labor, and at the same time, during the roasting process, it is not as hot as the old tea roasting oven, the tea is evenly spread, reducing the loss of tea, so the tea when roasted is very soft, fragrant, and the quality of the tea is improved. Along with that, with this tea roasting oven, it will help save up to 50% of firewood compared to the old tea roasting oven that Mr. Hoang used before. However, it requires people to have high skills and be able to regulate the appropriate temperature, otherwise the tea is very easy to spoil.

With just two skilled workers, Mr. Hoang’s factory can produce about 100 kg of dry tea per day. With such a capacity, on average, each year, Mr. Hoang’s factory produces about 10 tons of various types of dry tea buds, bringing in revenue of about 3 billion VND.

Currently, Mr. Hoang is processing and producing about 3-4 types of tea with prices ranging from 300,000 - 1 million VND/kg. Mr. Hoang mainly sells tea wholesale to traders at the market in Van Han commune. According to Mr. Hoang, wholesale will bring better prices and larger daily sales volume.
With the current production scale, Mr. Hoang’s tea factory is creating jobs for about 6-7 regular workers with an average income of about 200,000 - 250,000 VND/day. At peak times, there can be up to 50 - 60 seasonal workers.

Mr. Hoang's wish in the near future is to receive support from local authorities to establish a Cooperative Group and Cooperative for tea production and processing to increase product value and expand the consumer market, helping to create more jobs for many local workers.
