Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the evening of March 14, Lieutenant Colonel Lu Van Lich, head of Sop Cop District Police (Son La Province), said that the district police force had just returned 50 million VND to a farmer who had lost it.
Accordingly, at around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Mr. Dang Van Dung (40 years old, in Chieng Mai commune, Mai Son district) and Mr. Dao Van Hung (32 years old, in Chieng Khoong commune, Song Ma district) on their way to work in the center of Sop Cop district picked up 50 million VND.
Immediately afterwards, Mr. Dung and Mr. Hung went to Sop Cop District Police to report.
After receiving the money, the District Police verified the identity of the person who lost the money.
The results identified the owner of the money as Mr. Giang A Bang (33 years old, in Muong Lan commune, Sop Cop district).
At 3:00 p.m. the same day, the entire amount of 50 million VND was handed over to Mr. Bang by the District Police, Mr. Dang Van Dung and Mr. Dao Van Hung.
Speaking further to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Dung said that this afternoon, when he and Mr. Hung were working in Sop Cop town, they picked up a stack of money on the road, near Agribank.
However, the money was tied to a belt, and there was no information so the two men did not know who the owner was.
"At first, I picked up the money and planned to take it home and post it on Facebook to find the person who returned it. But I thought there would be dishonest people who would return it to the wrong person, and the person who lost it would suffer. So we told each other to bring it to the police to find the right person," said Mr. Hung.
At this time, Mr. Bang returned to the bank to ask and look for the lost money, but the bank staff reported it to the police.
After verification, the District Police and Mr. Hung and Mr. Dung returned 50 million VND to Mr. Bang.
"Mr. Bang said he had just withdrawn 62 million VND in savings to invest in farming. On the way back, the plastic bag containing the money tore and a stack of 50 million VND fell out, leaving only 12 million VND.
When he received the money back, he was so happy that he cried and thanked us. I said I was also a poor worker, not rich, but I felt that the money I picked up belonged to poor people or farmers who were suffering like me, so I found a way to return it," Hung added.
