On December 28, Cam Chau "Going to the Fields Festival" took place in An My village's rice fields with many special activities.
Unique cultural features
The whole Cam Chau ward has more than 220 hectares of agricultural land. Of which, 185.6 hectares are rice fields, 30 hectares of fertile land, with many fields with familiar names such as: Ruong Ho, Chua Tau, Ba Gai, La Y, Roc Luy, Ba Tuoi, Tam Buu, Trien A, Ba Chuong, Ba Lo...
Each rice field is associated with memories, folk knowledge, and unforgettable memories in the minds of local farmers.
Recognizing the unique values of local agriculture, the authorities have restored the "Going to the Fields Festival" program to preserve and promote the intangible cultural values of the traditional rice farming profession, encourage and motivate farmers to raise awareness of preserving the beauty of traditional professions and promoting the culture of the nation.
After 3 times of organization, Cam Chau "Down to the Field Festival " has become an important event in the annual economic - cultural - tourism development of Cam Chau ward; at the same time, it has been included by Hoi An City People's Committee in the system of annual festivals and events in the city.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong - Chairman of Cam Chau Ward People's Committee said, the program "Going to the fields festival" Cam Chau In 2025, there will be many activities such as: A ceremony to worship the god of agriculture, some experiential activities in the fields for tourists, buffalo plowing performance, tractor formation performance, water bailing with a bucket, delicious farmer dishes, "I am a farmer" contest... to restore the beauty of farmers in the agricultural production process.
"The festival is expected to bring the community and visitors the colors and flavors of the countryside; reminding anyone living in the countryside of their childhood and experiencing the beauty of farmers in the agricultural production process," said Ms. Hong.
This event aims to create an exciting atmosphere among all farmers before entering the new crop season and hoping for a bumper crop.
This is also a space to strengthen community cohesion and an opportunity for farmers to exchange and share experiences in improving the quality of rice cultivation when entering the new crop season.
As an urban ward, adjacent to the city center, however, agricultural land in Cam Chau ward is almost intact. The ward is surrounded by Thu Bon river, Do river and De Vong river with more than 45 hectares of aquaculture water surface, creating an existing landscape and environment that plays an important role in the development in the direction of ecology - culture - tourism not only for the locality but also for Hoi An city.
Contribute to defining Hoi An tourism identity
Identifying agriculture as an important factor contributing to the development of Hoi An tourism in a green and sustainable direction, every year the city and locality have invested billions of VND in building interconnected transport infrastructure across the entire field, implementing many agricultural extension programs, beautifying the field landscape, and developing agricultural services and products.
From there, initially creating a picture of tourism combined with agricultural production in the fields of Cam Chau ward, forming cycling tours around the fields, tourists experience the work and daily life with farmers.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said that, in terms of economic value and income, agriculture accounts for a small proportion, but the invisible value of agriculture, rural areas, craft village culture, landscapes of fields, rivers of Hoi An in general and Cam Chau in particular is very large.
"Agriculture creates a great attraction and unique identity for Hoi An to always be loved by tourists from near and far. Therefore, maintaining and restoring indigenous cultural values, including agricultural beliefs such as the activities of the "Going to the Fields Festival" is very valuable," said Mr. Hung.
