Implemented from October 2024, the demonstration model of raising 18M1 broiler chickens, applying biosafety methods, was deployed, with the participation of 5 households. Households were provided with 2,000 breeding chickens; provided with mixed feed, biological products, disinfectants; vaccines to prevent and control epidemics, and participated in training courses and technology transfer on chicken care applying biosafety farming. After 16 weeks of implementation, the model initially showed positive results.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, in Phong Hai Farm town, Bao Thang district, said: "Compared to other hybrid fighting chicken breeds, 18M1 is a breed of chicken with much higher productivity. The quality of chicken meat is very good, beautiful appearance, meeting market demand. In the breeding process, the number of chickens with diseases is very low."
The 18M1 broiler farming model has shown initial positive results.
Detailed evaluation shows that the survival rate of chickens is 95%; the average weight of each chicken is 3 kg. In particular, the amount of feed consumed per kg of weight gain is only 2.8 kg. On average, the income value of the model increases by more than 20% compared to other mass-produced chicken breeds.
Mr. Le Tan Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai province said: "Currently, the Department has full capacity to organize local breeding, even commercialize the 18M1 chicken breed to develop in other localities with similar conditions."
The quality of 18M1 chicken breed is highly appreciated, meeting market demand.
In the livestock development plan, Lao Cai province orients the lowland areas to develop poultry breeds with high productivity and quality and gradually shift the scale of household farming to farms and ranches. With the demonstration model of raising 18M1 broiler breeds with biosafety in Phong Hai Farm town, Bao Thang district, the agricultural sector hopes to add more sets of good quality poultry breeds, helping farmers increase their income, ensuring the goal of developing commodity farming in a sustainable direction.
