Dubrovnik, Venice, Bruges are the destinations expected to welcome the most visitors during the summer months.
Travel experts have compiled a list of the six most popular destinations based on the ratio of tourists to population at that destination (visitors/residents). This data is based on the number of successful bookings on travel apps such as UK-based Holidu .

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Ratio: 36 guests - one resident
Dubrovnik is a popular tourist destination thanks to its old town, with its ancient walls and orange-tiled roofs overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The coastal destination in Dalmatia has become increasingly popular in recent years thanks to its appearance in the hit series Game of Thrones.
Tip: October is a great time to visit as you can still enjoy the nearby beaches and islands but without the crowds of cruise ships and crowds that crowd the downtown streets like in summer.
Venice, Italy
Ratio: 21 guests - one resident
Venice’s inclusion on the list is “no surprise.” The city’s narrow streets are packed with tourists and its canals are filled with people riding gondolas, a common sight in the summer. While the Venetian government is working to ease overcrowding, its popularity is likely to keep the city seeing record numbers of visitors.
Tip: The best time to visit is November, before the Christmas and New Year holidays. “You can see the city on a cool, misty morning with fewer crowds,” experts suggest.
Bruges, Belgium
Ratio: 21 guests - one resident
Bruges (the Venice of the North) has long been a popular holiday destination for Europeans. But the continent’s safest destination has recently become more popular with international visitors. In the summer, when huge crowds clog the streets, prices soar and accommodation fills up quickly.
Tip: Bruges is beautiful in the summer. But if you want to avoid the crowds, a spring visit is a good idea. The flowers are in bloom and the weather is getting warmer, but the crowds are not yet overwhelming the streets.

Rhodes Island, Greece
Ratio: 21 guests - one resident
The largest island in Greece's Dodecanese archipelago, Rhodes is famous for its historic towns and beautiful beaches.
Tip: Come in September-October, when the weather is still warm enough to swim and there are fewer visitors. If you don't want to swim, you can visit in the spring.
Florence, Italy
Ratio: 13 guests - 1 resident
As the second Italian representative on the list, Florence has been facing a problem of overtourism in recent years. Many people come here for its passion for art, history, architecture and the appeal of delicious food and fine wine.
Tip: a visit to Florence can be cheaper and less crowded in winter, November and February are good options.
Reykjavik, Iceland

Reykjavik is next on the list, although Holidu doesn’t disclose the number of visitors per capita. Most visitors choose this small city to explore when they come to Iceland. Visitors may find it uncomfortable in the summer, as the city is not very large and the streets tend to be packed with people.
Tip: Visit this place in late May or in September, avoiding the three summer months when the weather is still nice, daylight lasts almost 24 hours but there are no tourist crowds.
