A young mother has just shared a way to "treat" her child that at first many people thought was because she spoiled her child too much. According to the video the young mother posted on social media, at 2:30 a.m., her 2-year-old son told her that he didn't want to sleep and insisted that she let him go out to play.
Without scolding or teaching her child about bedtime, the young mother only asked her child one question: "Are you sure you don't want to sleep and have enough energy to play outside until dawn?"
When her son answered loudly "Yes", the young mother immediately opened the door and took her son out to play at dawn. Outside, looking at the empty street, the mother asked her son: "Everyone is sleeping, why aren't you sleeping? ". The son insisted: " If I don't sleep, I'll run around on the deserted street. I'm so happy."
The mother and son played on the street until 4am when the boy expressed his desire to go home, at which point the mother calmly refused his request. The boy coaxed his mother to take him home, opening his tiny arms to hug her, but the mother stepped back and refused the hug. At the same time, she repeatedly emphasized to her son that before going out, they had agreed to play until dawn, so now was not the right time.
Even when the son said: "My hands are cold, I want you to warm them up for a while " and repeatedly expressed his disagreement with his mother recording videos and taking pictures of him, the mother remained steadfast.
Unable to convince his mother, the boy loudly begged: "I want you to take me home." At this point, the mother agreed because she had taught her son a lesson that she would never forget.
In the video's comments section, many netizens praised the young mother for her way of raising her children, however, from an expert's perspective, the mother's way of doing things is incorrect.
This mother's way of teaching her children shows that "letting children experience the consequences" and receive a "lesson" will make it easier for them to realize their mistakes. However, if parents do not handle it properly, this method can become a disguised punishment.
According to Professor Cai Dan, Executive Director of the Center for Family and Child Development Research at Shanghai Normal University, reverse parenting (like the mother mentioned above) is an effective way to raise children, but first of all, parents must truly trust and support their children. If the parents' purpose is to deliberately punish their children, it is an inappropriate parenting method because it only "makes the children feel ashamed".
This is exactly what happened to the mother in the video. In fact, when the child expressed that his hands were cold and he wanted to go home to sleep, he realized the consequences of asking to stay out at night.
The incident could have ended there, but the mother persisted until dawn, continued when the child did not want to be photographed, and posted the process of the child's "surrender" online. In this case, the mother actually waited until the child was "embarrassed" and then took the opportunity to educate the child. Doing so can easily arouse the child's hostility.
