Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 in the North Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg during its journey from Southampton, England to New York, USA.
At that time, despite continuous emergency signals and flares fired from the deck, it took nearly 2 hours for rescue to be reached. The Carpathia was the first rescue ship to reach the Titanic, saving more than 700 lives, while more than 1,517 people died.
The ship was carrying 2,224 passengers and crew at the time of the accident under the command of Captain Edward Smith.

The Titanic hit the iceberg in the dark and at almost full speed. Why was the Titanic traveling so fast in such low visibility conditions?
Director James Cameron's 1997 film 'Titanic' attributed the sinking to Captain Edward Smith being urged by British businessman Bruce Ismay, boss of the White Star Line that owned the Titanic.
Filmmaker James Cameron revealed this detail was provided by interviews with many lucky survivors of the "unsinkable ship" event that buried their bodies at the bottom of the ocean.
"Businessman Bruce Ismay wanted Titanic to beat the record set by the Olympic on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York the previous year. This was also to let the whole world know about the Titanic and the White Star Line corporation" - a survivor recounted.
The Olympic was also owned by the White Star Line, which was owned by British businessmen.

Another theory put forward by an American engineer in 2004 was that a smoldering coal fire at the bottom of the Titanic forced the ship to reach New York faster than originally planned. The director also mentioned this factor in the 1997 movie 'Titanic'.
The legendary ship's wreckage then "slept" at a depth of 3,800 m on the ocean floor for 70 years until it was discovered by the US Navy in 1985.
At the time of discovery, the ship was almost intact, although broken in two. Over time and for many other reasons, the ship is seriously deteriorating, and scientists even believe that it will disappear completely by 2030, that is, in 17 years, because bacteria are corroding the metal.

Daily Mail describes the Titanic as currently lying at the bottom of the ocean about 350 nautical miles (about 648 km) off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The Titanic was designed to be "unsinkable" and was the largest ship afloat at the time. It had a gym, library, swimming pool, several restaurants and luxurious first-class cabins.
"Like everything, the Titanic will eventually disappear completely," said Patrick Lahey, president and co-founder of Triton Submarines, a company that researches and designs submersibles to explore the ocean floor.
In fact, in 1996, explorers could still see Captain Smith's room and bathtub on the starboard side of the Titanic, but now they are gone.
"The captain's bathtub is a favourite image of Titanic enthusiasts but that image is now gone," Titanic historian Parks Stephenson said in a statement.

The Titanic sank 111 years ago and now many tourists visit the wreck. To see the legendary ship with their own eyes, visitors will have to pay about $250,000 per person for an eight-day excursion, in which the group is divided into smaller groups sitting in a submersible for a maximum of about 10 hours.
However, seabed explorations at a depth of 3,800 m are not always safe. The US and Canada are coordinating to mobilize many modern means to search for the missing tourist submarine while visiting the Titanic wreck.
CBS reported that the Polar Prince, a cruise ship operated by OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact after diving to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean at about 1:45 a.m. on June 18 (US time). The cruise ship was believed to be carrying five people, including celebrities.
