Although there is no chance of advancing to the 2023 Women's World Cup, the Vietnamese players are still determined to play their best in the final match of the group stage against the reigning world runner-up - the Netherlands Women's Team at 7:00 p.m. on August 1 (local time), or 2:00 p.m. the same day (Vietnam time).
Sharing with the press during the morning practice session on July 29, young midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su affirmed her determination to play hard and hopes to contribute to the national team in this match.
The player of Hanoi Club said: “Coach Mai Duc Chung and the coaching staff reminded the whole team to temporarily forget the previous matches to focus on the next match. My teammates and I will follow the tactics set out by the coaching staff and try to play better in the match against the Netherlands Women's Team. If given the opportunity, I will try harder. From the past matches, I have also learned a lot of experience for myself such as not being able to hold the ball for long, being pressed by the opposing team and easily getting injured. In those situations, I will try to pass the ball and coordinate better with my teammates. The whole team will try because everyone expects to play and contribute for the flag and the shirt."
Ngan Thi Van Su is a young midfielder who was sent off the bench by Coach Mai Duc Chung in both recent matches at the 2023 Women's World Cup.
As one of the players with small physique in the Vietnam Women's Team as well as in the whole tournament, this young midfielder still has the necessary confidence in competition.
She affirmed: “I think nothing is impossible. Participating in the Women's World Cup Finals this time is a great honor. Not only me, but in general, the Vietnamese women's team are girls with small bodies but their spirit, solidarity and fighting belief are always very great. I think that if I try to practice, the Coaching Board will trust and give me the opportunity. The Coaching Board always creates conditions for young athletes. I also want to send a message to young people: if you are strong, keep a strong spirit and be confident, everything can be done."
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will have two more training sessions in Auckland city on the afternoon of July 29 and July 30.
On the morning of July 31, the whole team will travel to Dunedin city to prepare for the match with the Netherlands team.
