Mr. Truong Gia Binh: Converting 1 million technology engineers into AI experts

On March 14, at the National Innovation Center - NIC (Hoa Lac, Hanoi), at the Policy Forum "Vietnam proactively develops the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industry in the new era" organized by NIC under the Ministry of Finance in coordination with Aitomatic (USA), Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation called on foreign investors such as NVIDIA, Google, Marvell, IBM... to cooperate in the field of AI and semiconductors with Vietnam, a country with hospitable people, rich cuisine, a talented young generation and a proud 4,000-year history.

Vietnam has "golden" human resources in artificial intelligence and semiconductors.

According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, if many years ago, Vietnam was almost unknown on the world IT map, today, Vietnam has become the cradle of high-quality human resources. Vietnam has 1 million IT engineers, half of whom are software engineers that can be converted to AI and are aiming to convert into 1 million AI experts.

"If we can do that, as predicted by Mr. Jensen Huang, Chairman of NVIDIA, Vietnam will be first in the world among the top developed countries," said Mr. Truong Gia Binh.

Mr. Binh called out: "I hope you will see Vietnam as a large center of talent, where people with great aspirations and a strong spirit of progress converge."

During the Covid-19 period, Vietnamese engineers worked day and night, forgetting to eat and sleep to complete their tasks. Thousands of FPT employees raced against time to complete important projects. It is this spirit - the relentless dedication - that makes Vietnamese engineers unique on the world technology map.

Launching ceremony of initiatives and affirming commitment to participate in developing Vietnam's AI and semiconductor ecosystem.

In the goal of training 1 million AI workers in Vietnam, FPT committed to transforming and training AI capacity for 500,000 people. FPT engineers have studied day and night over the past time, receiving nearly ten thousand NVIDIA certificates.

Vietnam is aiming to train 50,000 semiconductor workers by 2030 and will move towards hundreds of thousands of workers in the future. In the context of the world and Vietnam investing in semiconductor training, Mr. Binh said, FPT committed to training 5,000 people by 2030 and currently has 1,600 students studying semiconductors.

"In recent times, more than a dozen leading universities have quickly opened training programs on AI and semiconductors. We have prepared a workforce for a new generation of experts, integrating into the global technology flow. This is a gold mine waiting for international businesses to exploit," said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation.

The Party and State leaders have issued Resolution 57 NQ/TW, affirming Vietnam's determination to choose innovation, science and technology, including AI and semiconductors, as the roadmap for future development. We are mobilizing the participation of the whole society in digital transformation activities, applying high technology to life.

Vietnam ranks high in AI research

According to IDC's Spotlight report, FPT has risen to 48th place in the ranking of AI research centers in the world, affirming its serious investment and pioneering position in the field of artificial intelligence.

Over the past 6 years, FPT has had a strategic partnership with Mila Research Institute, bringing together great minds in the AI ​​world such as Professor Yoshua Bengio - known as the "Godfather of AI", or Andrew Ng - a pioneer in computer vision.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh: "Some of FPT's AI research has entered the top 3% of the world's best."

These efforts have been recognized worldwide with more than 100 papers published at prestigious AI conferences such as ICML, ACL, NeurIPS. Notably, some of FPT's research has been ranked in the top 3% in the world, presented at leading AI conferences such as IDE 2024, ICASSP 2024, contributing to FPT's inclusion in the top 50 leading global enterprises in AI research.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh affirmed that FPT is working with Vietnam to build advanced AI infrastructure. The group aims to expand its scale to 5 AI factories globally by 2030, contributing to making Vietnam an important AI center in the region and the world.

FPT is currently expanding the scope of AI applications, providing advanced AI solutions to Pertamina – Indonesia’s leading oil and gas group, cooperating in AI development with KMP Aryadhana – Indonesia’s largest innovation ecosystem, and establishing an artificial intelligence research lab with the National University of Singapore. FPT’s Chairman affirmed: “Vietnamese intelligence is spreading its influence to the world.”
