Vietnam and Australia agree to strongly promote cooperation in many fields

On the afternoon of July 24, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received President of the Australian Senate Sue Lines on the occasion of her visit to Vietnam to pay tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed sincere thanks to the President of the Senate, the Leaders, the Government and the people of Australia for sending condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam; emphasized that the visit of President of the Senate Sue Lines to Vietnam to pay tribute to the late President National funeral demonstrating the close affection between the leaders and people of the two countries, is a vivid demonstration of the strong development of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Prime Minister said during his lifetime General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted much enthusiasm and affection to the Vietnam-Australia relationship, especially the General Secretary strongly supported the two countries upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On this occasion, the two leaders discussed a number of key orientations on cooperation between the two countries and agreed to continue promoting key areas of cooperation, including traditional areas such as politics, defense - security, economy - trade - investment, people-to-people exchange, science - technology as well as new areas such as climate change response, equitable energy transition, digital transformation, digital economy, circular economy, mining, etc., thereby further strengthening strategic trust, commensurate with the stature of the relationship and the aspirations of the leaders and people of the two countries.

The Prime Minister also proposed that the Government and Australian Parliament continue to care for and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Australia to live and work in the country as well as facilitate visa issuance for Vietnamese citizens to Australia, especially Vietnamese students.

The President of the Australian Senate shared the great losses that the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, are experiencing; highly appreciated the sentiment and political trust that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had for the development of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; and expressed regret that she did not have the opportunity to welcome the General Secretary to Australia after his historic visit in 2008. The President believed that on the basis of good relations, the two countries would continue to foster increasingly sustainable relations as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wished.
