The activities of searching, purchasing and transferring new, high and advanced technology to Vietnam are carried out by two Korean units and the Department of Technology Application and Development.
On June 22, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Technology Application and Development (SATI) signed a cooperation agreement with the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) on the Promotion of Industrial Technology and Innovation and the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) on Strategic Cooperation in Advanced Industrial Technology between Vietnam and Korea . The signing ceremony was held during the visit to Vietnam of Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Accordingly, KIAT will promote and facilitate Vietnamese enterprises to receive technology transfer and support joint research cooperation and innovation in a number of priority technology fields. The Institute will continue to implement the global technology commercialization consulting project - GCC, build an ODA project on consulting and supporting technology solutions; support and accompany participation in the joint research and innovation network Eureka Network through the Globalstars and Network Projects programs, and accompany participation in the Horizon Europe program.

In cooperation with KEIT, the two sides will conduct research and technology development, jointly identify and propose programs and projects, manage joint research programs, organize project evaluation and selection; provide industrial policy advice, survey technology needs; exchange information, documents and researchers, experts to serve research and innovation cooperation. The institute also supports the enhancement of joint research and innovation networks between Vietnam and Korea.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh highly appreciated the support from Korean research institutes. He expected the two sides to exchange strengths, promote cooperation in technology connection, research and development, and participate in international innovation activities.
He acknowledged that Vietnam and Korea are facing green transformation challenges in the context of climate change. The two countries share the same ecosystem and responsibility for transforming technology towards green, sustainable and friendly. Accordingly, it will open up opportunities for Vietnamese and Korean enterprises in industries and fields such as new technology and high technology.
Cooperation activities aim to realize the Project to Promote the transfer, mastery and development of technology from abroad to Vietnam in a number of priority sectors and fields until 2025.
Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations in December 1992 and became Strategic Cooperative Partners in October 2009. The two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022.
Korea is one of Vietnam's leading important partners, ranking first in investment, second in ODA, and third in trade. Total bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached 87 billion USD, up 11.4% compared to 2021.
