The AIFFA 2023 Gala and Awards Night took place on the evening of August 4 on Kuching Island (Sarawak, Malaysia).
Kim B (born in 1989, in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province) is not a professional actress, but a makeup artist.
She has participated in makeup in famous film projects, including Kong: Skull Island by director Jordan Roberts - a famous Hollywood film set in Vietnam.
Kim B's role as Kim Bao in Dem toi ron flamboyant is her first role in the film industry.
The film deals with domestic violence in Vietnam, directed by American director Aaron Toronto and his wife, actress Nha Uyen, who is also the female lead and screenwriter of the film.
Director Aaron Toronto lived in Vietnam for 16 years and researched Southern funeral customs for many years before making The Glorious Night.
This film won the Golden Kite Award in 2021; won 2 awards "Best story" and "Best performance: Female" for Nha Uyen at the 2022 American Independent Film Festival (Santa Fe).
The film also won many awards at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (Vietnamese film category).
The most important award of AIFFA 2023 - Best Film Award was given to Barbarian Invasion by female director Chui Mun Tan (Malaysia).
The film previously won the Grand Jury Prize at the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival.
The AIFFA 2023 Organizing Committee also presented the “ASEAN Inspiration” award to international film and music star Bi Rain.
AIFFA 2023 took place from August 2-4 in Kuching Island (Sarawak, Malaysia), recording the number of registered films up to 120 from filmmakers across countries in the region.
The jury had a very difficult time selecting the list of 34 films to enter the official competition round. Director and actress Hong Anh is the only Vietnamese representative on the jury.
The remaining members include: U-Wei Bin Haji Saari (Head of Jury - Malaysia), Ihsan Nurullah Kabil (International Jury - Türkiye), Viva Westi (Indonesia) and Effendee Mazlan (Malaysia).
Vietnam has 2 films entering the official competition round: Memento Mori: Land by director Marcus Manh Cuong Vu and Dem toi gloaming by director Aaron Toronto with 4 nominations.
These are the nominations for "Best Actress" (Nguyen Hai Yen - Red) and "Best Picture" (Tran Ngoc Khuyen) in the movie Memento Mori: Land .
The movie "Brilliant Night" received 2 nominations for the categories "Best Screenplay" (Nha Uyen, Aaron Toronto) and "Best Supporting Actress" (Kim B).
