The Vietnamese women’s football team lost all three matches in the group stage of this year’s World Cup (0-3 to the US, 0-2 to Portugal and 0-7 to the Netherlands). However, like domestic football fans, the AFC was not surprised by this result.

The Asian Football Confederation's homepage wrote: "The debut of the Vietnam women's football team in the World Cup may not have ended smoothly, but coach Mai Duc Chung believes that a bright future still awaits this Southeast Asian team."

"Coach Mai Duc Chung looked at the positive aspects of the Vietnamese women's team instead of just focusing on the heavy defeat, even though the team ended the tournament with three consecutive losses," AFC added.

AFC did not forget to quote the head coach of the Vietnamese women's football team: "We lost all 3 matches, but the teams that won against us were all much stronger than the Vietnamese women's team."

"The experiences that the Vietnamese women's team gained at the 2023 World Cup will be brought back home by the players, inspiring the boys and girls of Vietnamese football in the future," said coach Mai Duc Chung on the AFC's homepage.

Although the Vietnamese women's team lost all three matches at this year's World Cup, coach Mai Duc Chung's team received bonuses from the Vietnam Football Federation (800 million VND after the match against the US team, 500 million VND after the match against Portugal and 500 million VND after the match against the Netherlands) in each match.

VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan said the team was rewarded for their high spirit, not for winning or losing each match. This shows that VFF highly appreciates the efforts of the team under coach Mai Duc Chung in the recent tournament.

AFC continued to quote coach Mai Duc Chung: "There is still much work to do, but the fact that Vietnamese women's football has its first World Cup participation has great significance for us."

"Our spirit is not inferior to any opponent. The Vietnamese women's team is mentally ready. Our shortcoming is that our physical strength is not as good as our opponents," coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed.

On the night of August 2, the Vietnamese women's team began to leave New Zealand. The team is expected to return to Vietnam at noon on August 3, with one group returning to Hanoi and the other to Ho Chi Minh City.

* President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan revealed that Vietnamese female players have attracted the attention of many international scouts during the 2023 World Cup.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan shared on the VFF homepage: "Scouts always take advantage of information flows from direct to indirect sources to research and discover talents, responding to different professional football environments.

During the training trip to Europe of the Vietnamese women's team, some scouts also followed the Vietnamese female players.

In the current squad, some Vietnamese players, especially young faces, have great potential and are attracting the attention of scouts.

However, to get official information, scouts or interested clubs will have to work with the home teams in Vietnam."

The VFF President gave an example from Huynh Nhu's case: "From the VFF's perspective, on the one hand we pay attention to overseas Vietnamese players, on the other hand, we also expect that there will be many Vietnamese players going abroad. In particular, it would be great if many young players went abroad to play football.

Huynh Nhu's case is a bright spot in Vietnamese women's football having representatives playing abroad. But on the other hand, Huynh Nhu is already 32 years old. Going abroad is still a bit late for this player.

Hopefully after the World Cup, Vietnamese players will receive professional attention from experts. VFF's wish is that Vietnamese female players can go abroad to European or Japanese clubs. This is an ideal environment for the development of top-level football."
