USAID will work to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in Quang Tri.

This was affirmed by USAID Director in Vietnam Aler Grubbs during the visit and working session of the delegation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Action Center for Chemical and Environmental Remediation (NACCET) in Quang Tri province on August 19.

At the meeting, NACCET representative informed that Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam are in region 1 of the project "Support to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange", so it is called Integration Project 1, with an implementation period of 5 years (2021-2026).

In Quang Tri, in 2022 and 2023, the project will be implemented in Dong Ha city and the districts of Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, Huong Hoa. In 2024, this project will add Dakrong district.

It is expected that by the end of 2024, Quang Tri will have about 4,260 people with disabilities, including disabled children and people with disabilities affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, and 2,909 family members of people with disabilities benefiting from medical, rehabilitation and social services; 10 rehabilitation units will be supported to strengthen their capacity to provide services in a multidisciplinary approach and 186 health workers will be enhanced their capacity through short, medium and long-term training activities.

According to Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam, this is a large-scale project, providing comprehensive and direct support to people with disabilities. The project's activities have been bringing encouraging results and positive changes to people with disabilities in the province.

Also at the meeting, USAID Director in Vietnam Aler Grubbs and NACCET General Director Major General Ha Van Cu affirmed that they will make more efforts to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in Quang Tri province in the coming time.

The project “Support for improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange” (abbreviated as the Integration Project) is implemented by the National Action Center for Chemical and Environmental Consequences (NACCET) - Project Owner and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - Sponsor. There are 8 localities participating in the project, including: Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Kon Tum, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai. It is expected that 3 new provinces will participate: Quang Ngai, Ca Mau and Bac Lieu.

The project has supported rehabilitation interventions for about 4,670 people with disabilities; cared for about 4,600 people with disabilities. In addition, the project has trained about 760 doctors and technicians, and supported training for 4,290 family members and caregivers of people with disabilities.
